My heart really does bleed for those big clubs missing out on millions of dollars, because it’s not like they get looked after at all.

Why isn’t the fixture equal?

It's not possible to make the fixture equal with the current length of the season.  It can only be equal if everyone plays each other twice, home and away.

Would like to see what drives the revenues of the various clubs. Of course it's a combination but what are the big drivers?

  • Raw membership numbers
  • Reserved seat sales
  • Gate receipts from away team supporters
  • Coteries
  • Sale of home games ( Hawthorn, North MFC)
  • Merchandising

Somewhat surprised if our subsidy did not go down in 2022 (did it) on the back of the 2021 success.

Gold Coast and GWS are a continual basket case neither of which have shown financial improvement since their entry into the competition.

Port Adelaide is an enigma especially when you compare them to Freo (Both second teams in a football mad city with similar populations)

True. but there are other blatant inequities such as why do we play in Geelong every year but other clubs haven't has to travel there in years

That is such a tangential excuse. You can make the fixture fairer from the POV of exposure and to maximise gate for clubs, regardless of the number of games.

Why does Carlton get to play so many Friday night games? Why isn’t Essendon treated like Hawthorn when they are not much better than them (although I am loving the Hawks being treated like the minnows they are in their hearts).

Anyway, the funding can’t be the same because the fixture is built for the broadcaster, not for clubs or for fairness.

Do Jeelong need anymore funding?

Like really!

Includes prizemoney for winning the flag from memory plus the standard funding all club's get as part of their cut of the media rights/revenue (basically covers the TPP/salary cap from memory).

Where does all of this money come from? I know there’s TV rights , but what about other sources?

Media rights is the main one, sponsorship, AFL membership distributions and other league revenues etc all contribute.

Im aware of the funding each club receives Doc.

I was just having a light hearted go at the Pussys as they have received so much government funding to transform Feral Park.

I apologise for going a bit off topic, but has The AFL paid back the loan they took out during COVID?

They had a loan facility. Not sure that they ever drew down against it. Their main concern was zero games in 2020 and therefore no TV or stadium revenue. The 2020 season was restarted and the crisis averted even though overall revenue was down
