Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years

Whst are the signs that you believe are relevant? IRW

He hasn't signed yet and it's getting to "signing time" metrics.

There is a credible rumour  he's thinking of going because he  doesn't really like living in Melbourne( not that he doesn't like playing for Melbourne) .

He isn't apparently in an established living situation( aka brought a house) in this town and  the Club is just  saying what tradition requires them to  say when it's  likely out of their hands.

No shortage of choices

I don't KNOW hes gone  but ..

OCCAMS RAZOR

Don't need " indigenous "," family ties" ,  "money", " lonely / no partner" in the theoretical mix

Further more I THINK the wild desperate  philosophy  on here suggests that you all " know" he's likely gone.

I'm very happy to be mistaken

Yes i have been told similar. He has no “connection” to the City of Melbourne

But he does love the Coach and the players.
He is also a huge fan of the new Game Plan this year.
So it will be an interesting Season

He has a serious girlfriend who is from Melbourne. Is that not a connection to the city?
I mean she might be happy to move. But still to say he has no connection to the city of Melbourne sounds incorrect to me.
Players have moved for partners and equally I’m sure they’ve stayed for partners.

The new Gameplan is to his liking so that  will help with a successful Season

Yep and all the more interesting if  'Land and the press dont rattle on about it and just concentrate on the footy.

Please please please stfu( not you in particular)

ps how do you " know" he's a huge plan of the new game plan and what is it  given that we havnt actually seen it?

Do you mean he's keen on midfield time?

The odds of him going are  clearly high, given these tend to get sorted out sooner rather than later.

LJ's situation clearly taught us that we are not bulletproof to loosing good players. As much as many say Kozzie is different than LJ, there will be lots of people in his ear. He'll probably be paying close attention to what his family says and if they are anything like the Jackson's, we are in trouble. Let's hope uncle Byron can put aside his allegiances and advise Kozzy on what is best for his career and that is as a one-club player. To counter this, Brayshaw left his contract decision to the 11th hour and whilst we all thought he too was gone, reminds us that it is still possible to get a signature deep into a contract year. He doesnt seem to be a sell-out or a money grabber.

His girlfriend situation gives us something, but really it can go both ways unless there is something that is keeping her bound to Melbourne.

I really don't ask many questions

On this I put a simple proposition ; apply Occam's Razor

In this case why hasn't he signed by now?

And immediately people rolled up with multiple theories

The simplest answer is just that he is not  going to.

The refutation is Brayshaw..the difference is he was upfront about looking at other options.

Connections inside the walls give me information sporadically.
Yes he loves the Midfield role and is very enthusiastic.
Did not enjoy most of last year, do not know specifics on that. But I think the Club realized they had to change things up. There are other things i have been told in confidence…

Thanks ,I don't imagine  players or fans enjoyed the last half of last season....playing the skipper I jued from when they were 10 nil and not trying depth players, not adjusting tactics that had been sorted out by the other teams etc etc.

The Club / coach was looking pretty complacent/ insensitive/ headstrong/ stupid

Yes it all kinda seized up after Round 10. TMac going down for the year was huge.
The whole structure was diluted because Weiderman wasn’t the answer.
We have recruited for the now and I applaud the Club for doing it. They know the time is 2-5 years for serious success

So he wasn't happy with the way he was being played and now he is in an increased midfield role in contract year...

So clearly we are going to great lengths to keep him - its a pity it takes the impact of a contract year to make these types of changes. He should have more midfield time last year with Chandler / Bedford getting more of a run up forward.

Again, like I said with Jackson, this is no time to be chasing a big money contract at 21 where he really hasn't scratched the surface on his potential. The wise thing to do would be to take a 2 year deal, gain more experience, play your butt off and affirm your status as one of the best small forwards in the comp. The next contract can be about your ego or go-home factor.

You can say that Jackson got it anyway but I'm not convinced getting that deal will be the best thing for a 50 game player still developing. Time will tell though.

In hindsight yes. The Club made some mistakes last year, but they have come clean on that and have done a lot of work to rectify them.

I wish it was much harder to march a player to the preseason draft.  Even the threat of that puts all the power with the club the player wants to get to.  Maybe have a rule that players can't register in a preseason draft until 5 years after they were picked in a national draft?  Allow them register for the National Draft again without nominating a contract like they can in the preseason draft.

Also, Wikipedia says Kozzy is the nephew of Byron Pickett (which we all know) AND Neville Jetta.  Can anyone confirm or deny that?

I agree, there has to be something in it for the club if they decide to make that move. For example. if you march him to the draft, the club gets the pick immediately after the one used to snare the uncontracted player. So if Kozzy was to go this year and was taken at pick 3, we would then get pick 4. Doesn't really help with interstate players as go-home-factor would probably put-off a lot of Victorian clubs and its not always going to be equitable, but at least the club has some bargaining power.

The players and their managers have all the power in draft & trade situations because of the perpetual threat hanging over the AFL of "restraint of trade". At the minute, it's detente, but the players have the whip hand.

I don't really get the "restraint of trade" argument. It's a unique industry, all the more so because of it's a home-grown sport, and nothing at all like a salaried job. Where else are they going to ply their trade? Denmark?

Not sure we'd want it going too far the other direction though. Only a couple of years back, a major league baseballer was traded during a game, while he was playing centre field. Had to leave the game then and there.

That’s a big call I don’t think anyone was definitive on LJ come to think of it.

Gawn was bullish but he’s the captain. What else was he gonna say?

Trac and Kosi are very close. They lived together at one point. Trac would know way more about Kosi than Kane Cornes

I watched thebi tee ire Trac. It’s hard with Trac - he starts saying he’s super confident, then once pressed was less certain. End of the interview I was just confused.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
