I'd be staggered if 1) TMac wasn't offered another deal and 2) if he went elsewhere. Why? Just do your rolling one year deals, that way if you want to move on or the club does, there's no pressure.

TMac has been pretty honest about being near the end and looking to a post footy life.

I think he stays with us for another or two potentially or he retires.

Ive got no issue with offering him a one year deal and keeping him but I think he could get offered more elsewhere given the lack of KPDs like @DeeSpencer said above.

I'd be quite happy to offer TMac two years on a vet wage to stave off competition for his signature.

Not sure we'd be freeing up a huge amount of salary by moving him on, and he knows our system and football club. Makes no sense to move on IMO.

Two years would be stupid. One year for TMac but we should try to retain him.

If it was up to me, I would give him a run this weekend and get Picket to hold his hand and run through the banner..

Banner to read…, “There’s been lots of talking this kid up from Picket…. now get Jeffo the ball and watch him Kick it”

It completely depends what the financial outlay is. He's a veteran who would not command big dollars, and since he is with us, we don't need to pay an inflationary wage in order to woo him over.

You can't have it both ways. If he gets another offer, I'd be offering two, otherwise he'll likely accept the one year deal from us.

TMac is has been good this year, but he is replaceable and unlikely to be part of our next flag.

Turner and Petty can go back. Tomlinson could stay. We have played only May and Lever at times, with Rivers the third tall.

I agree, and if TMac hangs them up this year, so be it, but as we've seen over the last few years, good AFL KPPs are hard to find.

If TMac retires, if May keeps getting injured, all of a sudden we are struggling to fill some of those key tall posts.

It's why I think we should definitely go after Wright as he fills 2nd ruck need too. And I wouldn't be against Taylor Walker either if it gets the right sign offs.

Walker should be a prime target given role and the money.

Wright looks great on paper but is such a liability below his knees. I think JVR is better the way footy is played in 2024.

Best question to ask is that one - who is part of the next flag?

Now comparing these two isn’t fair due to age but 5 years ago there was no way ANB would have been seen as key part of the flag. AND sometimes people surprise us.

You’d prefer it to be on Tom’s terms and it’s probably time to move on to a fine fine servant who had seen all the peaks and troughs of a club originally in disarray and rebuilt himself and his skill set  numerous times. We don’t win the flag without him 😎

BBB has currently outscored him with 7 goals and he played 6 games this year.

BBB plays far deeper than Petty most of the time.

But yes, more goals would be great but he is playing the rôle asked of him.

He could well be part of our 2025 flag.

Each to their own but I dont see it. Would hope Petty is back there (still a gun defender in my eyes and much better than TMac at shutting down a dangerous opponent) and we have a forward solution sorted if Jefferson still hasn't done enough to warrant selection and consistently get a game. Wouldnt mind Wright as our forward ruck, anything that keeps JVR out of the ruck and focussing solely on being our #1 KPF is good with me.

I was just being super optimistic as there is so much pessimism promulgated on this site.  But then, who knows?

Agree 100% about desperately trying to find a solution that allows JVR to concentrate on becoming  an elite  KPF, even though that may  require the odd deep forward ruck contest.

Tracc only wants out cause he is sick of Jeffo being overlooked

Nah I heard from a reliable source that it's because he doesn't want Petty to play as a forward.

Re discussion of TMac herein: In interview he made the clear observation that he had changed his attitude for 2024, with a purpose in playing on (reasonably successfully it now seems) - and his ongoing guide through the year - being 'to have fun'.

So, a decision to continue will be his more than the Club's, I suspect, and the question will be, 'Can I expect 2025 to be fun?' (indeed, 'Am I having fun at the moment?')

Personally, I'd go Tomlinson out, Petty back, Jefferson forward. I prefer Turner as a forward to Petty, he has good agility, great hands, and, at least this year, a better set shot. I very much doubt that's what selection committee will go with, but that's what I would like to have a look at. Petty has been inch by inch getting some kind of form, but he's still not really impacting the scoreboard and I'd love to see us 'loose the chains' this week and play more attacking footy.

BUMP THIS, but club which has the BEST CULTURE going around🤮 refuses to play a guy who actually HAS FORWARD form! OOOHH SHEEEIT i forgot.... we have Royce Hart playing at CHF!

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
