When is the last time we promoted anyone who had kicked 12 goals against anybody?

When is the last time we had the opportunity to promote someone who had recently kicked 6 goals for our affiliate/seconds side?

My guess would be 1991.The player I have in mind had been unimpressive in his debut and had played 3 in the reserves.

Green will still be in doubt, you don't pull out with just hamstring soreness, he will have a slight tear. Neitz he is a an older player will be lucky if he plays this week. I don't see the reason for dropping Garland after one week, it would be nice to see him at the MCG next week.

B Petterd Carroll Biz

HB Bell Rivers Godfrey

C Bruce McDonald Johnstone

HF Pickett Miller Davey

FF Newton Dunn Yze

R White Sylvia Moloney

Int PJ, Garland, CJ, Buckley

We don't have mich to choose from, this is an inexperienced team but hopefully Petterd can play like last week and either Newton, Buckley and Garland show us something tobe excited about.

I'm with rhino except i still think jamar should be dropped. he's better than pj in the ruck, but not by a lot. pj gives it his all when he plays and jamar can never be found on the ground. Our rucks have been depleted and i don't think we will see jamar smash lade in the ruck. Jamar has been terrible over the last few weeks and pj should get his shot to back up white.

No to the bizzell, fergs, warnock suggestions, all have been tried and failed

At least one of Bizzell, Ferguson, Holland or Warnock must come in this week.

Port Adelaide have three key forwards in Thurstans, Tredrea and White.

Who do you suggest plays on them?

Warnock gets my vote. He seems solid for Sandy, being a defender solid is good enough.

This game is the FINAL chance to resurrect any hope this season. A win could turn everything around, however no point risking Neitz or Green, unless we genuinely believe finals is not out of the question. How many times has it been shown to be folly to play players less than 100% fit.

The backline is the major weakness, Brown has to go, Bizzell worth another chance or maybe Ferguson I think. We have to find a competitive backline. CJ would be stiff to go after only one game back. Newton & Buckley worth a try, Jamar MUST go, I have not seen him do anything worthwhile all season. PJ seemed more effective than Jamar when he went into the ruck. We have been slaughtered in the ruck all year so one less lumbering ruckman will only improve our chances. At worst we will still having one more running player and still get slaughtered in the ruck !

Have to turn the team over until you get a competitive side. There should be big changes, we did lose by 49 points to Sydney, I thought it was a shocking performance. I'm sick of hearing the line about being 'competitive after a poor start'

In: Bizzell, Newton, Buckley, Warnock (Neitz, Green, Ferguson)

Out: Jamar, Brown, Garland (Bate, CJ, Godfrey)

As shown by the Sydney game its really irrelevant who you play down there when you get smashed in the centre clearances 13-1.

Holland is injured and would not be in contention anyway.

Bizzell was terrible at Sandy yesterday and could not be called upon. Its clear his days are numbered and he validated the selectors decision last week to drop him. It clear those calling for his recall were not at Sandy yesterday.

Warnock is a solid VFL defender nothing more.

Ferguson is Ferg! Tried tested and left wanting. If you had to have a 3rd defender, I guess its him. Ho hum.

My back six.

With both McLean and Jones out Sylvia is desperatley needed in the middle as Moloney is our only 'tough' midfielder prepared to really put his body on the line. I understand why you'd have him in the backline - I just think we need him more in the middle atm.

Fair enough. Would you drop Dog? If so, for whom?

Newton kicked 6 for Sandy and usually i'll like to see a youngster string a few games together before senior selection (ala Petterd) but with the depleted list and most importantly if Neitz ain't ready, he's earnt his spot by default. Garland didn't do anything at Sandy and not surprisingly struggled Sat nite. Newton would be stiff to not get a look in.

I have pushed Sylvia back. I am not sure with Green and Jones. If they did not come up, I'd run Buckley.

Those calling for massive changes and bringing in Bizzell, Ferguson or Warnock are kidding themselves.

Bizzell was below average for sandy yesterday, Warnock choked a lot of the time when he got the ball and Ferguson while he was good, is not the answer, not AFL standard.

If we had to bring in another player to play back it would prob have to be Warnock, just don't let him get the ball.

Newton was fantastic. He should replace Garland.

If Nieta comes in then drop Jamar or PJ, I don't care who, they were both average in my mind against Sydney.

Green/Buckley for Bate.

Warnock for Brown (if need be).

Warnock is untried as far as I'm concerned. I'd play him ahead of Ferguson, as we still don't know enough about him at senior level.

Don't care if his disposal is poor, if he can shut-down an opponent, he should get a gig.

We need to find out whether he's worth keeping on the list next year. We already know where Ferguson stands.

Whoever the third tall is this week, they are short-term solutions until hopefully Frawley is up and running. Poor kid's injury timing is woeful!

burgoyne has been cited by the tribunal

Thats not confirmed yet, but if the tribunal is serious, he should get weeks.

It was a vicious bump to the head, and I was under the impression the AFL were cracking down on these bumps.

Lenny Hayes had to go to the rooms after the bump, and the Ch 7 commentators voiced their concerns for the bump.

If Michael Johnson can get 4 weeks for clipping Hansen's head (NAB Cup) then Shaun Burgoyne should at least get 2 for his.

But its 2007 we're talking about....our luck is lying somewhere in the Werribee serwage system

I dont believe that is true.

The Club has had many years to assess Warnock especially during his time at Sandy. He just goes there without suggesting he can step up. I think we know where he is at.

FWIW, Ferg offers us more than Warnock.

And yes I would prefer Frawley but alas.....

Like to see Garland get another run, especially with Neitz on the ground.

Lose nothing bringing Buckley in for CJ, Bate or Brown.

Neitzy will be back at last. Bring Holland in, not Bizzell he was not at his best against Freo however it is understandable it has been some time since has played with the big boys maybe some more match time is what he needs to return to form

Holland did not play for Sandy at the weekend, where is he.

Holland to play on Tredrea

Miller to start about 30m out and leading, Dunn playing higher and running back into the 50 (he is at his best turning his opponent around)

Neitz to teach Newton to play Full Forward and leading outta the square until Robbo is fit

PJ is backup ruckman, Jamar has been no good lately

Green to join Petterd in the backline running and passing out of defence

I have read the posts about how good his game was for Sandy on the weekend and I think the kid deserves his shot....

Especially if it is a choice between risking a 75% fit Skipper or Green....

My main reason for asking the question is that I am contemplating putting Newton in my dreamteam for this week.... Gonna trade out Nathan Ablett....

If Newton doesn't get a gig against Port do you think it will be likely he gets a run at all this season??? I only ask this because we will start to get forwards back in the next few weeks....

I hope Daniher doesn't play 2 ruckman because both P.J and Jamar are useless they do nothing around the ground they can't get hitouts and when they do like most ruckman there hit outs go nowhere. Only 1 in 5 hitouts went to advantage for both teams. If your midfielders aren't willing to go in and get the ball your midfield will get smashed everytime no matter how many hit outs you get. We are just robbing ourselves of another running midfielder. All you have to do is be competitve I can't see why Miller can't give White a rest when he needs it. What Miller lacks in height he should make up for in competitiveness and he can run all day and do something around the ground. Dunn and Newton can play CHF so I can't see why they can't do this. In 2005 we were at our best when Miller and Holland replaced White in the ruck when we put Jamar and Jolly back in we were hopless. We need to something different just because everybody else is having a second ruckman doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

Pickett needs to find form at Sandy but Sylvia isn't doing much better he will be lucky to stay in the side.

I don't want to see the likes of Ferguson, Brown, Ward, Holland and Bizzell their time is over time to look forward to the likes of Warnock, Buckley, Newton, Garland, Frawley and Pettard who was brilliant against Sydney I haven't been excited about a youngster since Brocky.

Even with Neitz and Green likely to come back Newton must play to kick 6 goals for Sandy when our senior team could only manage 8 should make him a certainty.

Buckley should come in to give us much needed run.

Warnock should be well ahead of Ferguson because he has pace something that Ferguson sadly lacks.

If Neitz is fit, then PJ goes. Jamar is not rucking well, PJ cant ruck.

Are you kidding?

3) PJ cant ruck fullstop

Too much faith has been placed on the shoulders of Jamar. He was clearly a liabilty against the Swans, and has been for sometime.

PJ's short stint in the ruck against Everitt/Jolly was more effective than both White and Jamar's time in there... Give the boy a chance. I thought he showed a bit against quality 'tap' opposition. He surely can't be worse than Jamar, who really needs a spell at Sandy...

SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
