The lion hearted key position forward recently capped off a long career at three AFL clubs with his second VFL Premiership, this time at Casey (his first was with the Cats a decade ago). Led the club’s VFL goal kicking this year and played a valuable role mostly at this level but was also a handy back up in a limited games with Melbourne. Retired at season’s end.

Date of Birth: 28 August 1990

Height: 196cm

Weight: 90kg

Games MFC 2022: 3

Career Total: 79

Goals MFC 2022: 2

Career Total: 74

Games CDFC 2022: 16

Goals CDFC 2022: 38

I could certainly make a case for Mitch going around again in a similar role on a minimal salary given our lack of key forward depth. He has done everything we could have asked from him in that position and at that stage of his career. That said, I'm not surprised he is moving on after an AFL career spanning 14 years. Well done, Mitch.

I really like Brown

Old fashioned footballer with a wise head. Sadly he seemed to be stuck between the VFL and AFL talent wise

The memory for me will be that Rd 5 game last year. Replacement home game so sat on Ponsford bottom level and he really stood up to help us get that win. All the best Mitch!

last round v WCE in 2020 when he absolutely tore them to shreads, took so many marks on the lead and polled a couple brownlow votes sticks in my head

Has an amazing ability at VFL level to find space in the forward line to take a relatively easy mark (think Gunston).

Unfortunately he couldn't bring that skill to AFL level

Would have had a more prevalent career at the Dees if we didn't have to keep playing Weid whenever their was opportunity in the hope he would find consistent form.

Love Mitch’s story dual VFL premiership player with 79 AFL games in between. Great height but a bit light on for AFL will be greatly missed at Casey.!!

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

This will be a massive test for the Demons who will be facing a genuine Premiership contender. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
