A perfect 10 for May. Whether you like this award or not credit where it’s due and a bit of positivity can’t hurt this week. Onya Maysie!

Melbourne v Sydney

10 - Steven May (MELB)
8 - Luke Parker (SYD)
3 - James Rowbottom (SYD)
3 - Jake Lloyd (SYD)
3 - Clayton Oliver (MELB)
3 - Callum Mills (SYD)

Leaderboard

10 Steven May (MELB)
10 Lachie Neale (BL)
10 Caleb Serong (FRE)
9 Gary Rohan (GEEL)

  • Dee Zephyr changed the title to 2022 Gary Ayres Award

If May did not give away those stupid frees, it would have been close to his best game in the red & blue.

Maysie really was fantastic!  Here's the electrifying performance highlights video:

Love Buddy's grumpy and shocked face every time May intercepts a mark.

I wouldn’t worry about it Dee, I have absolutely no idea of the meaning of what you have just said!

Serong gets 10 votes, Andy Brayshaw zip.

While the stats wouldn't support the votes both coaches saw it the same.   Looks like it was the clearance work by Serong.  Perhaps the clearances were critical times that turned the tide.

Reckon Andy would be disappointed to not be in the votes at all given that 7 players got votes.

Some key stats there are 10 clearances to 0. 6 tackles to 2.

Brayshaw played well, but he was more a link man off half back flank and not a massive impact. Serong was in everything all over the ground. He started everything for them winning it and going forward and locked it in when he didn’t win it. He had a much bigger impact on the match than Brayshaw and all others on the field. It was a brilliant performance and made me very envious of Freo having him and Young on their list. Both are superb young talents who have now stood up on the big stage of finals.

*If Franklin wasn't such a masterful flopper.

Credit to May, really did play a brilliant game. Personally thought Petty wasn;t far off but well done to the big man.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
