Another year for the young fellas.

  • Demonland changed the title to New Deals for Moniz-Wakefield, McVee & D. Smith

Yes this was an obvious move to sign them for one more year.  Give them more of a go. I think Mcvee and Smith may struggle but I think AMW could look get a game next year under Choco’s development.   He just seems to love the contact and intensity of AFL. Maybe it’s his rugby league background as a youngster.

We don’t usually announce rookies so early in the piece, that’s interesting.

AMW: Really like the Niz, he makes quick aggressive decisions with the ball and can take a mark. Groins haven’t quite held up to afl training just yet but if he gets on top of that and puts in the work I think he can develop in to something.

Smith: I like the way he plays as an aggressive small defender with a great leap, but his skills haven’t come on too much and he’s undersized. A touch surprised they locked him in this early.

McVee: has settled in well at Casey and is improving his output. Seems like a smart player with a good balanced all around game for the VFL level. Struggling to see the AFL upside though. Hasn’t really shown the pace, size or ball winning to fit in any backline role.

if you are Kade Chandler or Mitch Brown, you are looking elsewhere.

Chandler is ok BS he goes onto senior list in 2023.!

There must be something special that JT & TL see in these boys for the future to call it this early, although I dearly want to see some aggressive talls coming onto our list.

Mitch can go. Kade is still in contention.

Need a good midfielder

Good luck to these guys but other than AMW who is tracking okay I would be surprised if they make it. Nothing to be ashamed of. They are still at an elite level relative to most

Very odd to see rookie spots announced so early. Happy to have these three on there longer.

i think when you view our rookie list for 2022 and overall list its not too surprising. Majak and likely MBrown off the list and Chandler contracted to move to the senior list already gives us 3 rookie positions to potentially fill already, AMW as a cat b isnt going to be forced off by anyone unless we have 2 international/cross code/nga prospects in the pipeline, we dont + he's shown enough so easy recontract. With McVee and DSmith we also have a wealth of defensive options ahead of them currently ahead of them including Bowey, Riv, JSmith, Hibbo, Hunt and Tommo so it wouldn't necessarily be worth us moving one of them on to recruit again at HB so soon when we have a good spread of depth, youth and talent.

our OOC players are currently mostly covering two points of the ground which i think is a good thing key position -JSmith, MBrown, LJ + Majak - clearly a position of weakness we're weighing up options at. And HF/midfield link up -Melksham, Bedford, Baker, Rosman where we currently have some options but are continuing getting let down in and could quite easily strengthen in over this off season.

but i get what you're saying with McVee and DSmith averaging 11d it's hard to really see whether they are going to turn the corner and really make it at afl level. but it's baby steps. If clubs average 8 list changes a season ours this year will land somewhere close to that in my view Baker, JSmith, MBrown, Maj, LJ, Melky

Max Gawn talked up Moniz Wakefield big time on Gus and Gawny.

The vibe I got from Gawn was out of the trio signed up, Moniz Wakefield was the one he was most excited about.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
