We got more support in Perth during the finals last season than I have ever witnessed in Victoria. It was what home games should be like. I understand they were different circumstances to regular games but it does frustrate me that many of our supporters are always too busy or unavailable to attend home games. Every other club appears to generate more hard core support.

I predicted 67-72 for the Pies game so am very happy with my work aha.

I think Saturday night also tends to be a terrible crowd drawing slot.

If this were a dry Saturday 2pm we would get 70K.

Based on ticket sales, I think this will be lucky to get above 55K and weather isn't looking great this weekend.

I am looking forward to another weekend sitting on 2A in the AFL reserve surrounded by clueless people from the other team.

I am expecting to sit in level 2A in the Shane Warne stand (reserved seating area for MFC members) that most likely will at best be half full……as has had happen pretty much all season long

From 66,000 members we had about 20,000 it felt like for our biggest home game on a Friday night in years.

Too many  members have bought a membership this year ( thanks but no thanks) but are not attending using night games twilight Covid cold weather ( winter sport guys) and now Old Dee says 5 decades of failure produces poor response. Bunkum. We are now a TOP club with Premiership ambitions People don't seem to want to go but just be happy saying I am a member!!!

Our Corporate and Coterie type members on Level 2 are embarrassingly absent  with gaps in level 2 Southern Stand.everywhere and the red section Level 1 the same. All sold out !! Where Why no fans ???

The above reasons are not valid IMO as other Clubs fans are turning up with little hope of success.

By the end of 2022 H and A games I wil have attended 8 MCG games and I live in Brisbane, Plus 2 Qld games and vs Freo in Round 20. That's 11 games because this group of players deserve support ( as Trac said).

Take a look at Geelong Home games with only about 21/22,000 seats available NO T any seats visible unused. We would be embarrassing in that scenario with theReserve Seat Holders half absent. EPL Soccer in England is the same all seats taken at most venues.

Lastly the excuse about tickets processing is lame and lazy. The system has not changed since Round1 so ONE effort then and you are able to go with it ALL season!!! Get your kids grandkids and neighbours to help if you aren't a techno. I'm over 70 but that's not stopping me from going.

Bet some will expect to get Finals  tickets now not having seen ONE game. Good luck !!

Very disappointing wonder if we can get 35/40,000Dees fans with our double chance on the line on Sat night.  Just get there no excuses please.

PS A few will self justify by replying about their non attendance all season or last week don't bother as you are only fooling yourself. The Club ( and Trac) wants and deserves greater support than the season so far. Let's see if the MISSING 10,000 fans each game turn up for Round 22 or Will the Blues fans outnumber us like the Pies did last week.

11 games is an awesome effort.
I live in Sydney and try and get to 4-5 home games each year and attend when we play in Sydney.
I think you’ll find some people (regardless of who they support) bought premium memberships purely for the GF access.
My wife and I (both Redlegs) will both be there Saturday night and we’re taking 4 guests. Part of me misses living in Melbourne and going all the time.

So what's the reasons 58? It's easy to preclude many reasons but why don't members turn up. If they have paid their membership and don't show up why?

You can bet on about 25k. Why?

How good was the atmosphere at those finals!

I was at the G on Friday night, smack bang in the middle of some Demon reserved seats and I was somewhat underwhelmed to say the least.

I might add - anyone potting the Demon Army has rocks in their head. They're loud and do a great job. It's a shame about the rest of the fans in the nearby bays. Unless the boys are up, sadly a lot remain silent.

The GF was easily the loudest game I have ever attended. I have to say the atmosphere at Optus is somewhat better than the MCG with a full house and a big game and the crowd was mostly ours.

approx 70% of the support was ours and the noise was incredible. At the MCG the noise is loud but a lot gets sucked up into the sky. At Optus it just swirls around the stadium like a Mexican wave,

100% agree.

When you say ‘the crowd was mostly ours’, sure they barracked for us but they were WA fans (with a strong  West Coast flavour). Hence the noise and the excitement  (the boos included)….WA people love their footy.  Thank goodness they ‘adopted’ Melbourne for the finals

Our players loved it and I have no doubt, it spurred them on.

Should we move to Perth JCB?

If you like beaches and better weather then for sure. The GF support from the locals was truly bizarre and unexpected and likely will never happen again.

I wish I knew. I think perhaps the MCG plays a part compared to Optus. Even a small crowd at Optus makes a loud noise, it just makes you want to join in.

I do wish all of our fans surrounding the army would get involved and be loud with them, but it doesn't seem to happen unless we're up and about on field.

Not necessary.  What we can do is learn from them (and sadly from quite a few based Melbourne clubs) on how to show real support for our boys on game day.

Better still, do a trade with them with some of our supporters. I reckon I’d be willing to give up three fair weather supporters for one of their passionate fans.  I reckon we would have a lazy 60k we could bring to the trading table. Just imagine having an additional 20k mad passionate fans at our home and away games. Make it more exciting to attend snd would help our lads immensely

Footnote - I am not having a go at the elderly, Covid concerned or distance challenged. My aim is at the fair weathered mob, in particular the vast number of reserved seat GF finals guaranteed members that do not turn up for many if at all any home and away games

Yep. I thought the PF against Geelong was loud, but the 3rd quarter noise level in the GF was something else entirely.

Probably the only sensible thing BT has ever said - "The noise level here is illegal JB!"

Also have to point out I agree with this 100%.

It was great but a shame for the stay at home fans in Victoria who couldn’t experience our premiership in person. Most have waited a lifetime for that opportunity.

Absolute rubbish about the crowd noise at the G. First you have to make the noise JCB and compared to  other clubs  we are not the loudest. Due to lower numbers in blockbusters more often than not and conservative barracking.

Read para 2 above in my post OD those are some reasons and the ticketing issues further down the post.

But I have given up accepting any of these as a reasonable excuse They are  copouts from at least 10,000 fans each home game we are missing.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
