I thought he got 5 weeks? That would mean he is back.

He got 6 weeks, 1 of which was for last year's final with the other 5 to be applied to the start of season 22

He was pretty good for someone so pickled.

GWS can certainly get the job done when they are playing their A game, I wouldn't be underestimating them. One thing is for sure, we are not going to see a repeat of last week. They will try to move the ball fast to score and we'll have to score reasonably heavily to win. Bring it on, last week was not a great spectacle, this week should be much more enjoyable to watch (particularly if we win it, which I am fairly confident of).

I think you mean GWS is one of 2 teams who currently have a losing record against us, the other being GC. Unless you mean since the day before the queens birthday last year. Then you’d be correct.

I meant that they are one of only two teams who are on a winning streak against us, because unlike Adelaide and the Dogs last year we didn't get a chance to beat them after they beat us.

Speaking of Stalin....talk about history repeating itself in Putin.

"First thoughts about the game this Saturday are these...

Melbourne's main strength is our main weakness in that they dominate teams with their intercept marking in their defence and our most glaring weakness who everyone can see except the coaching staff it seems is our inability to contest in our forward half and being able to hold the ball in. WORRYING. Sitting the ball on Himmelberg and Hogans head to watch Melbourne take 30 intercept marks is going to no doubt bring out the pitch forks from the GWS faithful.

Secondly kicking any kind of score against Melbourne seems somewhat impossible with them having conceded 71, 69, 70 & 36 points in the first 4 rounds of the year which makes it the lowest in the league. All the while our points for is ranked 14th in the league... So buckle yourselves in for Leon to make this the most boring game of football you have ever witnessed in your life. He might try for a soccer score type game of 2 goals a piece and hope we win the penalty shoot out at the end of the game.
With Preuss out we will get absolutely monstered in the ruck by Gawn & Jackson and Melbourne's wings will be all but licking their lips moving about the vast expanses of the MCG turf like field raised chickens while our wingers make sure we get more numbers behind the ball.

I feel (and hope) this could be Leon's last game as coach but no doubt our players will turn up and actually put in effort, not let the opposition walk around them and break our pathetic tackling and keep our season and Leon's career alive... I feel history repeating itself again.

They played a near perfect game against us last year at the G and I recall their highly skilled guns in Whitfield, Ward and Kelly kicking clutch goals against us. Meanwhile we weren't ourselves that day and were in the middle of a pretty ordinary 6 week period.

Sounds a lot like the Port supporters last week.  Please Melbourne beat us by a lot so our coach gets sacked.

Wowee some great stuff in that, really wants Leon gone.

And this seems to be the theme of the season for us, just park the bus and hope to grind out a close game.

I was going to say that! Opposition fans don't dread playing us - they see it as an opportunity to get their coach sacked.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
