JAKE BOWEY APPRECIATION THREAD.

Playing well at Casey and may get a call up soon if the coaches want to change the dynamic of the team. He was rightfully dropped due to poor form and low impact on games this season. We’ve been better since Hunt and Rivers came back in at his expense.

Bowey has a long career ahead of him and the fact he can develop at Casey as well as AFL level shows how far we’ve come with reliance on young kids. He’ll make his way back into the AFL side at some point soon and hopefully hold his place. His kicking and decision making is all class, but he has other parts of his game he needs to continue working on (as all players do).

Could see him replacing Spargo as a small defensive fwd.

I think they see him and Bailey Laurie as replacements for Neal Bullen and Spargo - I am just not sure that either of them has the running capacity of ANB to be able to work up and down and help the half back in defence.  There is no doubt in my mind that they would be able to link as well as Bowey.

The really exciting one is Howes, he looks very special.

To Those seeing him as a defensive forward - has he trained with this group and would he immediately (finals are upon us) fit in?
I personally could see him as a wing (for JJ) - he is far more dynamic and creative (at the moment) than JJ who does seem to wait just that little too long. I love JJ’s efforts and courage but needs to think quicker.

No I don't think he has trained with that group - I think this is a much longer term piece for Jake, if he stays at the Dees.

I'd easily have Bowey back.

But I'd rather him playing his natural position we drafted him for and that was that half forward/wing role.

That means you are dropping Spargo for him, which seems highly unlikely at round 22.

Or you take out Sparrow, but then you are down a big bodied mid in the rotation, which is also unlikely to happen.

I think Hunt showed on the weekend why his pace is so important down back, so he stays. For mine the only spot under consideration down back is Rivers, but frankly, Rivers has the body to compete one on one much better than Bowey does.

He's 19 and has a long career ahead of him. I think he should train as a winger/forward in the off season and push for that role next season.

Surely ANB, Spargo & Sparrow are all under a cloud as their recent form is scratchy.  Our small fwds in particular are not going well ATM.

Our defense was so good last year that we were able to cover for Bowey's lack of size, speed and strength. This year there are plenty of cracks to be repaired, and he has been regularly exposed. I can't see him coming back in that role this year, unless we have multiple injuries. A role in the forward line will surely be his next chance, hopefully to put pressure on Spargo.

I would love to see him in the wing/HFF role and see if he can help us hit targets at half forward. Very hard to see how he will come in now but it's tempting.

So could I, a very clever footy player
