Not one of the frees against Ess were from Weightman diving or milking a free, the ump got the one clearly wrong, I have no idea how anyone could dislike Weightman for something not of his doing. Bizarre.

Perhaps not, but he is certainly playing for them now though.  Perhaps the Essendon game has made him think getting a kick via a soft free is the easier way play.

I don't like it when opposition players do it, and I don't like it when MFC players do it.  The game is hard enough to umpire as it is without players trying to milk free kicks.

Totally agree, unless there’s been a shocking decision earlier in the game and I see it as a square up I hate seeing our players not play it in the spirit of the game and get rewarded for it. To be fair I can’t say it happens very often, Clarry is a bit of a flopper at times but plays the game as hard as anyone so can’t ever question his commitment to the contest. Weightman on the other hand plays the game soft, and plays for frees.

I don't dislike Weightman.  He didn't dive but he played for 3 of the 4 frees vs Ess.

The first he dropped the ball, pushed up the op arm wrapping it around his own neck and nestled his head in opp shoulder:  High.

The second he virtually put himself in Draper's armpit:  High.

The third he leaned back on his opp who was on the ground and no where to go:  Holding.

The 4th was a mistake by the umpire.

Those 4 goals gave the Bulldogs all the momentum at a time the game was level pegging.   Ess would still have lost.

The free vs Smith last week wasn't Weightman's doing, it was an umpire mistake.  But he is getting a habit of 'positioning' himself for frees.  Styled on Selwood.

Spargo does it, Kozzie does occasionally but seems to have stamped it out for the most part. I don't like it.

But can you really blame them? Were the roles reversed, and for round one we had to face the team that thrashed us in the GF and watch the unfurling ceremony etc., would you wanna be there? I know I wouldn’t. Add that to the Weds night thing and that’s an even bigger bunch of nope.

it was the biggest home and away crowd between the two teams.

Really just a largely ineffective small forward.

When the chips are down we can always rely on nibbler pickett or spargo to wrave magic. Be it a goal or assist or tackle.

Weightman isn't in that class and is a proven non contributor when the heat is on.

His issue is he is an old school small forward who offers nothing if he isn't scoring.

No pressure, few tackles, doesn't get up and down the ground, no clearances.

Amazing he went so high in the draft.

Tries to take the big mark and rarely holds them.

There were a few on here that wanted him over Kozzi.

I love 1.45 when Langdon spoils Schache in a one-on-one at full back, and then clears it.

Not coincidentally,  Schache was dropped this week

Not the only one after wathcing an analysis on On the Couch from earleir this week, with Dunstall bemoaning that Naughton is a great FF but if it hits the deck, which he is good at doing if he can't mark it, there's no-one crumbing and away the ball goes by the defenders.

Dogs have been exposed for all to see in their first two matches

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
