If Steven Armstrong can go home to WCe and become a good player, what is going wrong with our young players? Perhaps some footballers are destined not to reach the level they are capable of if the club doesn't have a 'premiership' belief and culture.

I think there's some truth in that, and in may very well be true of a lot of clubs that some players get starved of opportunities depending on the list and the coach. Arma was good for us in his first few years where he played a bit forward, trouble was we wanted him to be a mid fielder - which he isn't.

He's taken his opportunities at West Coast because Matera retired and Sampi is too fat and lazy.

Whether it is true or not I don't know, but stories were that he and the coach didn't see eye to eye... but then every club has similar experiences.

Im more concirned about likes of Browne (freo), Staker (wce), Prismal, Hawkins, jetta, davey, pearce, krackor (pt adel), moody, riscitelli

My spelling is bad as its late but clubs are making champions very quickly and we dont seem to be able to.

Simple answer:

The culture. That's why we will never have a champion. It's the culture. We need a base, and a different way of off-field leadership imo.

That's why we need a champion that has been involved in a premiership to coach.

Paul Gardiner please go after Michael Voss.

As for Steven Armstrong, I'm looking forward to Rhino Richards coming on this topic and admitting he is much more than a fringe player. I won't hold my breath but!

Daniher can't coach and can't help players improve it is simple... Look at Jolly as well now everyone wouldn't hesitate at the moment to pick him ahead of White......

I always rated Arma but how can you find form when you are in and out of the side every week... ND is doing the same kind of thing now with CJ and instead plays dead wood... just leave the kid in there for a sustained time instead of halting his development...

Danihers selections have been terrible for years, stalling players potential.....

demon_fanatic, you're forgetting about the Bali bombing, and the effect it had on Arma. Emotionally.

Arma will be the first to admit that he found it hard to focus on footy and in the process, lost his place in the side. His wish to return home and his eventual placement on the WCE list went a long way to help him find the passion for footy again.

The club never doubted his ability, and he was a required player before his leg was torn by shrapnel. From there, it was a hard road back. To blame Danners is bollocks.

I'm thrilled he's finding touch. He's great guy.

I spoke to Arma for a bit at a function a few years ago and thought he was a really down to earth and approachable guy. It's just unfortuante that, unlike a lot of ex-melb players in the past, he was not able to find his place in the side. He was practically playing behind Robbo, Davey and Yze and my only guess is that WC went after him because of their rather average foward line and retirement of Matera.

What coaching experience could Michael Voss possibly bring to the table?

He is doing some coaching for the AIS squad this year.

He would also have learned plenty from Matthews, one of the most successful coaches ever.

He is one of the smartest footballers to ever play the game and played with courage and passion which is something we lack.

But your right, he'll probably be crap.

He actually talks a lot of useful c*** on Ten, if that's possible. Sometimes the stuff he says is really good.

Mind you, his apprenticeship creds are already looking better than G.Lyons.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
