The ironic thing of course is that Brown is currently getting much less with us than he would have if he accepted North's first offer.

Yes, less coin, but how much do you think having this medal around his neck is worth?

While we weren't exactly the premiership fancy at the time Ben came across, his chances of winning one with us were infinitely higher than at North.

Incidentally, there appears to be what could be a great article in the link below, but I don't have the means or tech savy to bypass the paywall.

I didnt understand why he was dropped after his three games but i guess the club felt bound to give Sam a run.

He wasn't quite as fit as they would have liked him to be and he didn't quite understand or execute the Melbourne role and style at that stage.
When he came back in he played completely different to those 3 games.

He will be even fitter and cause more problems next year

"We always knew that if Ben could get his body right, his best football stacks up," Brown said.

"You don't kick 60 goals in an AFL season by luck, and it was disappointing that some parts of the media wrote him off and didn't give him credit for what he had achieved.

"He wasn't getting lucky goals - if that was the case there would be a heap of us running around on an AFL ground.

"He's got something pretty special with his size, his hand-eye co-ordination and footy nous.

"We're really pleased he could get back to this level, and while he had to go back to the reserves to work hard and re-evaluate a few things, Melbourne has been awesome in their support of him.

"They continued to give him time and said he was a four-year player for them, not a one-year player, which took a bit of pressure off him and allowed him to work on some little things.

"When the final siren went, it was the culmination of a long journey for Ben, but the last couple of years have been a real rollercoaster, so to have that all come to a head was pretty emotional for the whole family.

He looks so awkward and gangly most of the time, with elbows and knees out of alignment with his arms and legs, a jerky running style, and looks to be out of position. I have to admit that at times, watching him play makes me want to look elsewhere due to the lack of smoothness. But he has 3 traits I just love:

  1. He attempts to mark the ball at the highest point of his leap, the one thing defenders find difficult to combat, and even makes it difficult for the third man up trying to spoil.
  2. When he is looking awkward and out of position, he gets an arm in here, his body in there, runs across someone ensuring the ball comes to ground: he does something to try and get the ball to ground.
  3. He leads in a straight line, demanding the ball. Half the time he has concrete hands, but his leading is a thing of beauty.

And stuff me, I can not for the life of me figure out why North were so keen on letting him go. We can build a very powerful forward line around this bloke for the next 3 years.

Coz Norf are Nuff Nuffs! Can I just say that outside of Oliver, Max and Tracc he was our most important player late in the season including Finals and Grand Final🤩

Love the MFC Twitter post yesterday on BBB

From the news report on his trade through to the premiership celebration.  What a year. A great story.

Steven May summed it up when he celebrated with BBB after the siren. “Here he is. The big fella just bounced back to win a flag “. Great stuff!!   ❤️💙🏆

Nice succinct summary of his journey with us this year

I expected Ben to be a Stay at Home Forward when he came to Melbourne, but he is anything but. During the 3rd Quarter of the GF, before the supercharger kicked in, Ben was working his [censored] off in the Center and on the Wings.
He had a great Grand Final, as well as kicking accurately.
4-5 years left in his career if he wants it.

Didn't end up kicking a big bag last year (think his best haul was four goals against Gold Coast) but often performed a selfless team role by taking the best opposition defender that allowed players like Fritsch to go absolutely ballistic.

Had a superb finals series as well. Absolutely annihilated Harris Andrews and Mark Blicavs in our first two finals.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
