If he wants the big money then this period with Gawn out is his perfect opportunity to show his worth to us or to another club should that be his preference. I still feel like he’s staying short term but then I was gullible enough to take Scully at his word that he wanted to be a one club player so I don’t have great form here.

I see this kind of sentiment a lot in this thread and am not singling you out.

Surely Jacko's worth to teams from the west (or us) was decided in last years GF and on future potential. The monetary figures would be sewn up. If I was his manager, I would be nervous that this period could jeopardize that

If Jackson was to leave, the solace (and denial) I'd take on, would be that he hit his ceiling in a GF, even at the young age of 20,. How? Because the opposition were completely unprepared for it - Gawn takes an extended rest at the most crucial period of the game, and this unicorn draft freak, Luke Jackson comes in and his follow up allows us to have an extra mid and exit the centre bounce at an advantage that nets us 3-4 crucial goals - a lightning strike if ever there was on. Much like with Boyd, the true Norm Smith of 2016, Sydney were completely unprepared for Boyd to go into the ruck and dominate - Jacksons legacy might be just like Boyds - Helped turn a game, because the opposition did not do their homework and prepare, because there were bigger threats to prepare for - and he got under their guard.

And I probably will be completely wrong about it, but who knows - maybe what we get for Jackson in a trade if he wants to go- will even the ledger, or put us ahead with what we get/draft: because Jackson was simply a lightening-in-a-bottle freak of nature that dominated for a 5-10 minute patch of 1 grand final that ends up defining his career, because he never reaches the same heights over in WA. Haha. Let's hope so, if he goes.

He's a good player and may well end up being a great player.

People can try and convince themselves that he is not that good or not worth the contract numbers that are being put around.

None of that matters.

If the figures are right then he's gone.

All that matters is for us to firstly get the most out of him this season on our way to a [censored], he really needs to stand up now.

...and secondly for us to get the absolute best outcome for our club in the trade.

If they are willing to pay him these type of numbers then he's worth the value of at least 2 high first rounders. I don't know how Freo get it done similarly to how we couldn't get the deal done for Cerra last year...it's up to them.

It matters not what any of you think he is worth, if the numbers are right then they are saying his value is extremely high.

That's what I'm thinking 'Nev', I'm saying the value of but don't see them having the currency in picks.

...interesting to see who they will give up and also who would want to leave.

They probably only have 1 player who is worth around the same on the market, so a few players fates may be intertwined...

Thanks. Now I’m developing a conspiracy theory on a relationship between Brayshaws contract and Jackson’s? 🤔

Can’t see freo letting Brayshaw go. And hopefully we would be demanding if it required a couple of 2nd tier Freo players.

With the money we will have to put up to keep jacko (and then Oliver next year), you do wonder if we will be able to pay Gus somewhere near his market value to keep him. All the more reason to play him in the middle and drive up his market value.

Love them both, but if we had to let one go, it be Gus (just because we have more similar players)

Disagree on that part mate. He's not going to play better in the midfield than he currently is at half back, and on top of that; all it takes is one head knock and his market value dissipates.

Fair call on both fronts!

I guess you let other teams speculate on the upside they could generate from playing him in the middle

I’m not sure if his contract status but if he wants out….

Yeah, I wouldn't take the gamble personally. I'd just be saying 'look at this bloke! A premiership winger, an A grade half back and 3rd in the Brownlow as a mid!'

Contracted to 2025. Hard to see freo entertaining him in any deal as he's their best young mid and they lost Cerra just last year.

Agree but first round picks in the late teens aren’t going to get it done either.

True, although I suspect West Coast is the real danger.

After what we've seen from those examples you mentioned and heaps more, it doesn't strike as a method for success does it? Ideally you'd want the team built from the ground up rather than the bank breaker that means others down the track leave

I read the last two words first and nearly had heart failure.

Jacko for Andy B, straight swap.

Peter Bell might not physically survive

Would we then have A Brayshaw A, and A Brayshaw B?

True, but he would look like a genius in a few years when Jacko peaks.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
