We bid farewell to Jay Lockhart who crossed Bass Strait to try his luck at Casey and impressed sufficiently to make the Melbourne list in the 2019 pre-season supplemental selection draft. He made his debut against the Cats early in 2019 and played 22 games for 9 goals and was best as a small defender. His opportunities were limited in the last year and a half and he struggled to break into Melbourne’s strong defence this year.

Wish you all the best for the future Jay. Once a Demon, always a Demon.

Sorry to see Jay go. First saw him out at Casey in 2018 where he was runner up in their B&F. Was thrilled when we picked him up and that he was given an opportunity to play at the top level.

Has a good combination or run, skill and doesn't take a backward step either. Also has the ability to play back, forward and on a wing. Really hope he gets an opportunity at another club. He'd walk into a team like Carlton.

Said it in another thread but he's looked really promising at times. I'd be surprised if he didn't get picked up by someone else - not being able to break into the best backline in the competition isn't the end of the world.

Happy for Jay. Deserves another crack.

No shame in not being able to force his way into our backline recently.

Happy for Jay if he finds a new home where ever that may be, but I'd rather it wasn't GWS.  I think GWS are one of the sides that will actually be in contention in the years ahead and I think Jay could be more than useful to them.  Would much rather he end up at GC to help them become compeditive.

As much as I wish Jay well, it’s a strange decision by GWS to chase a player who has been on another club’s list for a year and a half and struggled to get a game. Then again, they are after Brander as well and he’s very much in the same boat.

The Dees are in uncharted territory here.

The most players ever to win a GF that played every game of the year - 9 Players. and many more just short of all games.

The best defence of the 2000's. The best midfield of the 2000's.

How does a young bloke get a game, especailly as the average age , apart from May, is around 25.

Lockhart might be a gun, but at 25 now, the opportunities will be limited and the club made the right/pragmatic call.

Good luck to him elsewhere.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
