So in this era of salary caps, equalisation and a supposedly "level" playing field in footy, how do the Doggies get an additional $300,000 in player payments on the field this saturday?

Treloar's deal has us not only playing the Doggies in the GF, but also the 1.5 million (over 5 years) the Pies are tipping in to assist them...

Not in the spirit of the game, i'd suggest.

Funny at the time, less so now.

Thoughts?

The Dogs have the same salary cap as everyone else.  Treloar is included in their cap.

Collingwood are paying $300K of that cap to get Treloar off their books or they would have exceeded their own cap.

Just goes to show how much Collingwood wanted him out and the salary cap pressure the pies are under

Glad that was cleared up.

Maybe that was why Eddie was keen to come to WA, and watch his investment at work..?

It's fair

the market determined Treloar was worth $X in 2021. That is what the Bulldogs are paying.

Collingwood on the other hand are paying a $300k per year "penalty" to Treloar for getting the sums wrong.

It could also easily have been us paying $200k a year had Tom Mac been traded last year.

I believe we 'helped' Port Adelaide in 2018 with Jack Watts' salary.

An excuse is the meat of a lie wrapped in the skin of reasons. This has no bearing on whether we win or lose on Saturday.

This is going straight to the 'What they're saying on Brunton Avenue' thread on the Bulldogs forum.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
