Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I am deeply saddened and verging on devastation at the news of Charlie Watts' death.

As my username suggests, the two greatest loves of my life have always been Melbourne Football Club and The Rolling Stones.

He had already pulled out of the Stones North American tour this year but I now think the band cannot continue on after 60 years together.

This is a black day for me.  R.I.P. Charlie.

Saddest day in a long time. There are very few rockers who could claim the “gentleman” tag, but he certainly was one of them. I particularly love the story where Jagger phoned Watts's hotel room late at night, asking, "Where's my drummer?" Watts apparently got up, shaved, put on his suit, a tie and newly shined shoes, went down stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying: "Don't ever call me your drummer again. You're my [censored] singer!"

It is a great album... Ronnie Wood's first?  Mick and Keith had gotten into reggae.

Yes. That was the album where different guitarists were auditioned.
“Memory Motel” and “Melody” are just superb to my ears

The last recording with Glyn Johns

I was living in Warrnambool in 1976 and waited outside the record shop for it to open on the day that "Black And Blue" was released and thus become the first person in town to own a copy.  From there, it was straight home to listen to it on headphones three times in a row.  You might say I was rather obsessed with The Stones!

Today I'm wearing an old t-shirt that has a large picture of Charlie on the front with the caption "Charlie Watts And His Fabulous Rolling Stones" written in large letters.

Only Keef and Mick left now who have played on every Rolling Stones album.

I suspect they will construct one in the vault before too long.

Steve Jordan will fill the spot better than Ron Wood covers for Mick Taylor....Let it Bleed, Exile Ya Ya's Goats Head Soup and its only Rock and Roll. So 2 of the run of the greatest sequence in Rock history.  Sway is basically his track( no credit at all).Ron is basically a session muso for a great covers band .

Jordan plays on some Stones tracks now actually

Darryl Jones on sax now Bobby Keyes is gone  brings the jazz genius that Charlie had

Ronnie offers nothing at all.

Mick, Keith, Jordan and Jones would be a tight band if they could find a guitarist or just stick Wood in the background

He tours with them on every tour  and album since about 1990   and has played with Miles Davis  BB King,Sting,Clapton,Armatrading  to name a few.

Steve Jordan drummed with Keef and the expensive Winos as well as Sprigsteen and John Mayer He played on Dirty Works when Charlie was  drinking and doing smack....no specific credits like with Mick Taylor on Exile. He's a jazz fusion drummer ,a perfect fit with Darryl Jones and Keef.

I thought you were a fan?

There's a tight musically elite band right there  to let Mick and Keef go out with something more than being their own cover band....which is Ronnie's only contribution ...a lousy artist and a journeyman on guitar They're a lesser band without Charlie for sure ( the only one who isn't a cliche ) but the are a lesser band WITH Ronnie.

Correct !!

I went off my head....then ran with it without thinking..

Apology ... I kept thinking about Bobby Keyes.

The rest is true though, a tight jazz fusion influenced band without Ronnie would be a rebirth with Jordan on drums.

Rebirth of the band to honour Charlie

I'm getting more confused by the minute here, IRW!   :D

Do you mean Bobby Keys?  Or Jim Keays from the Masters Apprentices?

Both are now sadly deceased.

Trivia Time:  Bobby was born on the same day as Keith Richards.

As a painter, Ronnie makes a half-decent guitarist.

More trivia - he had an older brother called Art Wood who was not only a singer, but a graphic artist!

I think as a guitarist he's just there to keep Keith company.

Mick Taylor doesn't get the credit he deserves.

The Stones seem comfortable in their career longevity.

Can't blame them ,they're good at it.

But they are a cover band .

First band I saw.....Palais theatre .

Thanks mum

It’s Goat’s Head Soup tonight. Many people say it is the start of the slide. I disagree, this album has some true gems on it.
the 2020 Remaster is a beautiful listen

The Quality of vinyl in Australia was very ordinary. This was always obvious once i heard Japanese Pressings in the early 80’s. The Stones always sounded “Muddy” on Australian Pressings, the bass and drums particularly. But with a Japanese Pressing you could hear everything, The sound difference was huge. We had been cheated for years
This is worth another listen if it has been in the cupboard for a few years.

Although not quite as good as the four albums preceding it, "Goat's Head Soup" is nevertheless an excellent but widely under-rated record.

"Winter" would make my list of top twenty Stones' songs and I believe Charlie was very fond of it.

Have you heard the 2020 Remaster DS? Well worth it

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
