My 3 word player analysis V Geelong

Do you disagree with any evaluation? That is probably a more relevant post than a swipe at Joeboy who is posting a clearly difficult type of thread that will have many critics.

I love Joeboy's 3 word analysis, it's one of the  first threads I read and rather than having a swipe at him I'm offering my opinion on his view.  I don't agree on quite a lot of this comments but that's fine, it's an opinion business.  But I think calling Tmac "embarrassing"  is just unnecessary.  Footy is a team game, some have leading roles, some don't.  I wasn't embarrassed by Tmac's performance, I just thought he had an underwhelming night.  I thought Viney was fantastic in his role all night, I thought ANB was involved for most of the night ( and was mentioned in Goody's presser).  And on it goes.

I read the review in the joy of the best win I've seen Melbourne involved in and to be making comments like "embarrassing" just seemed a very jaundice view.

Without  Jvs efforts in the first half we would have lost.

I thought his four quarter effort was fantastic he never gave up

Our team - anytime, anywhere, anyway!

He did but i thought he and oliver were the only real standouts in the first half for us.

Up with our greatest wins ever, and you give negative reviews of half the team. 😢

Viney - tried but lacking

"Tried" is the wrong word IMO. Gave an incredible effort, is more apt.

Would love to see a highlight package of purely Viney's tackling and unbelievable desperation for that whole game. He was throwing himself at every kick. Didn't always get the smother, but his pressure was immense. Would encourage yourself, and anyone else, to watch the replay with a closer eye on how many times Viney was diving at kicks.

Gawn - deserved the honour

Oliver - sealed the Brownlow

Salem - was surprisingly fumbly

Viney - tried but lacking

Petracca - not as dominant

May - met his match

Harmes - prolific and aggressive

Brayshaw - important last quarter

Pickett - had mercurial moments

Lever - outstanding last quarter

Sparrow - some important touches

Langdon - impressive first half

Neal-Bullen - couldn’t get involved

Spargo - played his part

Brown - always provided target

Fritsch - noticed by absence

Rivers - was rarely sighted

Bowey - performance defied inexperience

Smith - hard to define

Petty - was rarely sighted

Jackson - season worst performance

McDonald - was embarrassingly ineffective

Viney will  and grunt in the last won the game, bias too much

Can understand that, but because you didn’t actually say that, that you were disappointed, or disagreed with the analysis of TMac, I misconstrued your point.

BTW, I thought that win has given these boys supreme belief in their ability to overcome whatever is thrown at them.

Put the block on a player chasing Kozzie, who then kicked to Fritta for his goal late in the game. Great 1% to JV.

And not just any player. Someone much bigger than him with elite running capacity in Mark Blicavs.

For what it's worth, I though Viney played an integral role in the win. However, how can someone with such bloodlines, drive and opportunity (ie, in having a father involved in AFL) have grown up with the inability to kick on his non-preferred? (And his preferred isn't great, either). I think it's consigned Viney to the role of "elite run with player" - an important role, but I suspect not one that he thought he would ever play.

JV also broke a tackle in the forward pocket in the last quarter to handball to Oliver who subsequently snapped a goal.

Correct. Not all contributions are noticed by the average fan or journo.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
