Thanks Kiran. I hadn’t listened to your podcast before but I thought I’d have a listen. It’s become a bit of a little secret of mine recently, which I dare not mention on Demonland, that I’m becoming a Kane Cornes fan.

It was interesting to hear him talk about going over the top on certain issues in the past - he said the “extra 10%” or the “bit of mayo”. My observation is that in his recent work in the media, he’s cut that aspect out of his work. Since then I think he’s shown that he’s able to analyse the game and give us some insight without the need to make headlines, and that actually makes him more interesting to listen to. I think at the core, he knows what he’s talking about, and as his experience in the media increases, it’s starting to shine.

The observation on Gawn getting back to help out the defenders is a great example of the type of things I want smart commentators to point out to me. I watch mostly on TV so I don’t get that view, but even if I watched at the ground, I doubt I’d be observant enough to notice.

Thanks Wrecker! Basically, Nita and I both studied law in Aus, moved to the US to become lawyers (and created Deeluded), and then quit our jobs and moved to Mexico City 18 months ago (just before the pandemic). Now working on some TV/podcast projects. All a bit random, really!

Thanks Nasher! I completely agree—we've been overseas for the last few years, so never have any sense who's applying defensive pressure off-screen (which is probably why we've sometimes been a bit harsh on players like Neal-Bullen). Great to get those kinds of insights. (Love "On the Couch" for that reason).

All of our journo friends tell us that Kane is one of the hardest working commentators in the game. He's great at making the non-obvious call, which is a good antidote to the anodyne commentary from some other past players.

Great episode guys.

I think a lot of people dislike Cornes for the sake of it or perhaps because he was so good as a negating player.

He's not your typical commentator who is there to feather his own nest, he's working on becoming better and he's very astute with the modern game. I'd recommend everyone have a listen

Interesting how TV watching differs from ‘at ground’. Watching Nibbler in the flesh as it were, it’s just staggering how much running he does. This work rate makes him essentially un-baggable for mine. Great podcast Kiran, and truly dedicated coming from Mexico!

I thought he was saying he puts the extra 10% or mayo on when he commentates a Saturday night game and then has to report on in the following morning on The Sunday Footy show and doesn't want to just say the same thing (hello Dermie)

I really enjoy Kane Cornes role in the media. He's not afraid to say his piece and while he can be deliberately brash and polarising he has a job to do. Has some good insights and comes across as genuinely loving the game which can only be a good thing.

Perhaps we can get you guys on 360 or OtC. You ask better questions than the suck-ups on the teev.

Great listening, I've never had a problem with Kane, he's always called it as it is and I'd rather hear the truth than someone just trying to appease.
