It would seem the Essendon coach doesn't subscribe to the umpiring plot theory.

Interesting, this.

Both coaches agreed May was BOG.

Then the coaches barely agreed on anyone else in the top 5 (e.g. one had Lever 2nd and no Gawn, the other had Gawn 2nd and no Lever).

Maybe he's pee'off Hurley wants to come to us as well

Cat amongst pigeons with this one @willmoy

His high possession count wasn’t very damaging. Sometimes disposals aren’t everything. May was a giant out there. He is worth his weight in gold and silver!

Absolutely, just thought he was better than our others

Good to see both coaches derate stat accumulation. Both Merrett and Parish did plenty of number collecting up the ground, but didn't hurt us.

Not surprised there was such a large spread.  Brayshaw and Gawn were excellent but not widely lauded - neither appeared in the media best players lists yet from my view at the ground they were both instrumental in the win.  May was an obvious choice for best on.  Lever was effective and probably played a game better than 4 votes but that's how it goes.  I thought it was only an average Oliver game and Petracca's goals were the difference in the end despite his 42% disposal efficiency. Heppell and Merrett were the Bomber standouts.  Heppell is a terrific player and a very good leader.

May was head and shoulders above Merritt on impact on the result.  He was good getting the ball so much but votes are about right in terms of who influeneced the outcome,  incl Lever, gawn, Oliver

We had some good players, some brilliant. So did the Essendrug few. I was personally quite impressed with Brayshaw's game, the thinking and variation of achieving the best outcome from his 'getting' of the ball. He has lost the panic in his football, as well; this enables him to pick his best targets, not just support nearest to him. A vital cog for our team game. Onyer, Gus.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
