This morning I find myself genuinely depressed with the world on Friday 13th August 2021 and I don't believe in superstition. However the news via electronic and printed media is nothing but despair and sad stories. Try as I might I could find nothing uplifting. I feel like I want to return to bed for a week and hope the news is a bit improved next Friday. I really had no idea our world would be like this for my later years. But no matter how sad for me  what must it be like for the young! Hope the dees can improve our world on Sunday with a big win.

PS why after a thousand time of typing "Dees" does it change it to Fees.

Perhaps your auto-correct is equally as pessimistic as you are.

I think my task for the rest of the day is to find something in the news to cheer you up. And anyone else feeling maudlin. Perhaps we can start a new thread which is a "Cheer up Demonland thread" with optimistic and heart-warming stories only.

Sadly I think it may take the honour of the shortest thread in demonland history. Might go and sit in the sun and watch my crows.

You are not alone there OD.

Things have to get better at some point and the Dees are top of the ladder in round 21.

That's all I've got for ya.   oh there's whisky too, that's nice

Agree.

Surely the ADF could play a role in that space.

They're too busy knocking on residential front doors (like mine) to make sure we are home during 14 days iso. A necessary job, but not for army personnel in camo uniforms, particularly as many in my hood are migrants from war-torn countries. At least drop the silly camo clothes in a suburban street. But I digress...

IMO would be better placed at airports supporting permit checks, or at state border checkpoints

All this shows is that we are still a bunch of self interested colonies that do our own disjointed thing due to a massive vacuum of leadership by the Fed Govt

Leadership has changed to followship...my own new word sorry '@Demonstone'.

Followship is the art of following the trend...not setting or doing anything that might offend a group of important voters.

Tap into what they're thinking then go with that.

It's the antithesis of Leadership.

It's common to all sides of politics now, but I will say our PM is a renowned exponent.

The leader of the opposition, if anyone bothered to listen to him is probably not a lot better.

I'm not sure if this will cheer up Old Dee. But I found it both incredible and heartwarming (although also a little bit weird).

I am currently hooked on dog videos on the internet. I have always thought they can play humans on a break.

speaking from experience

That’s is good as I can come up with dc. This does  not happen on my laptop however I bought a new one 18 months ago and at the time I was wondering if I should buy extra warranty coverage. For reasons I still don’t understand I pushed the include button. For the last  six months it has been  getting slower and slower. After 1.5 hours on the phone to Dell This morning a guy is coming next week to replace the hard drive. Just for once I pushed the right button. Now all I need for a perfect weekend ( covid life ) is the Dees to win well on Sunday.

I know precisely how you feel OD. I turn on the TV and there's Gladys telling us that today we have 390 new cases in Sydney, change the channel and it seems like half the world is at war, half the world is ablaze, record high temperatures and flooding all over the world etc... and then I check in on Facebook and it's still full of (or should that be 'fool of') climate change denialists, anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, etc etc.  The world is well on its way to hell in a hand basket.  And to top it off, we just had a murder committed just a few streets away from where I Iive.

Poor Perth, missing out again.

Here's some evidence that some types of crimes worldwide have reduced during the pandemic. And here's some more, although it does point out that some crime types (online fraud, for example) have increased.

I have learnt in my 25+ years in the job, to take stats with a grain of salt. The bosses and lollies use them to support whatever they are trying to push.

Online Fraud has been on the up since 2012,  Organised Crime well and truly got their tentacles into it

I’ll be looking out for you on DL tomorrow, OD. I’d better see you posting, or there’ll be trouble! You’re never too old to be put over someone’s knee, you know.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
