there's ample supply out there now.

The problem was that although CSL were putting out 1M per week of AZ since mid March they had a further six week approval time for each batch which was only recently explained.

There's now millions of doses of AZ in the system with 1M more being added every week.

Agreed. The vulnerable categories are pretty slack in getting it done, meanwhile the people not in those categories who are ready cannot. If it was opened to everyone, vaccination numbers would be much, much higher. I'm under 50 and not in health and everyone I know is waiting for the green light, just never seems to come

well days out from the game and it's looking more positive than yesterday at least.  I was sure a lockdown would be called today. Any unlinked cases come in overnight and we'll be locked down

But until that happens, I'm planning to go to the game. the capped capacity is not really an issue as I doubt we would get 20K people at the game given all the covid stuff going on.

Fingers crossed, no unlinked cases. and a big Melbourne win!

Only if you are over 50 or a health professional or have a medical condition.  Also a lot of people mistakenly think they will get a  clot if they get the AZ vaccine when the risk is lower than taking the contraceptive pill (why listen to doctors when you have facebook huh?)

my mum is a nurse in a aged care hospital and only got her first vaccine 3 weeks ago.

A shambles!

If you are above 50, front line or other vulnerable condition. I am early 20's and the only people i know vaccinated are frontline workers

Agreed. There is no reason they can't allow it and just give preference via an express lane to over 50s who turn up.

That peanut really helped thinngs with one of those 10 million announcements.

Basically telling people over 50 to chill, no hurry to get the cheap, cask wine  blood clot vaccine. Just wait until the top shelf, grange one is available around Xmas. Or next year. Or mid next year.

Anyone would think they are quite happy to ride the whe're an island, we're ok, keep the borders closed, nationalistic sentiment all the way to the next election.

All the while bagging the states about border closures (bad for business apparently - but closing the national border isn't. Strange).

And doing sweet fa about sorting an effective national quarantine response.

Rhyming slang comes to mind.

There is no supply of Pfizer and they won’t give AZ to under 50s due to greater risk of clotting. The issue for under 50s not being vaccinated is supply rather than demand.

I thought you can still get az if you are under 50. If you want to. And really I don't understand why anyone wouldn't

Its just thst it is recommendation not to. But discuss with your doc

Firstly you can’t because nobody under 50 can get vaccinated unless they fall into one of the A categories of being high risk or a specific worker like healthcare.
They did make a ruling that under 50s tho are not meant to get the AZ. Those under 50 who had it done before the decision and had no side effects are eligible for their second dose. Again it’s mostly health care workers.
The roll out for under 50s is meant to start when we get Pfizer or Moderna supplied.

As a health professional, I’m getting very f*****g angry about both the federal government’s half-arsed rollout, not to mention their incompetence at negating false information in the media, and some people’s utter selfishness and lack of community responsibility in ‘delaying’ their own vax for selfish or ignorant reasons. There is only ONE way to reduce the broader societal impact of this virus. ONE. Herd immunity through vaccination. If you can, GET VACCINATED!!!! It’s your civic duty, if nothing else. The Exhibition Building mass vax centre is populated by vaccinators doing sweet F A too much of the day.

Just to clarify - the risk of a clot is not greater in under 50s it is just that the chances of being impacted by Covid is greater for over 50's which tips the risk/benefit scale over.

The risk of a clot from the AZ vaccine for any age is less than that when taking the contraceptive pill

I am 41yo and hanging to get any covid vaccine

If you fall into 1a or 1b yes.

If not, the vic government is pushing to open availability to everyone.

As the federal government should have done from the start. A total joke.

So very, very soon you will have the opportunity to get an AZ vaccination shot.

This from health.gov.au - The COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine can be used in adults aged under 50 years where the benefits clearly outweigh the risk for that individual and the person has made an informed decision based on an understanding of the risks and benefits.

But I am not in any risk factor category so they won’t give me anything. AZ or otherwise.

I don't think that's the case actually. I think, but stand to be corrected, thst informed consent is a blanket statement that atm applies only to people under 50 AND eligible to get a vaccination (1a, 1b  frontline workers etc).

But under 50s will be able to get it here in a matter of weeks I reckon

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
