One other stat that might be worth mentioning.

We've won 12 quarters so far this year, which is the best of any club.

The Dogs are on 11, Sydney 10, and Port, Richmond and Geelong are on 9.

Of the four quarters we've lost, two of them were vs Fremantle in Round 1. That means in our last three games we've only lost two quarters (Q1 vs GWS, Q3 vs Geelong).

That’s awesome!

There’s another beautiful stat as well Titan. We’ve never been behind in any last quarter. The closest any team has come to us is GWS getting 6 points behind. Apart from that we’ve had a 12 point buffer in every game.
I find it hard to believe as my severe MFCSS makes me terrified anytime a team kicks a goal on us at any time but we’ve really never been seriously challenged this year at the pointy end of a game.

What a strange and wonderful feeling!

All good P-man, love all the different takes on here. Could have given 6 to a few blokes, but from my vantage point Viney seemed in everything and the clincher was when he ran straight from the interchange and flew Superman style to spoil the ball in the last quarter.

Was expecting this or Lever to get Golden Fist on Bounce. Viney in motion was a thing of beauty, Lord of the Rings 'You shall not pass'

So why was he selected for yesterday's game? He had an interrupted pre season with injury and played in one Casey practise match. In that game he was not a stand out performer. Then given a spot in the team that were 3-0 and playing well. Mystery to me why he was in the team.

I suspect because he is normally the most consistent converter of his opportunities and we dont have BB and Sam available yet.

On Sunday however he missed a soda. I'm no fan of Melk but I reckon you need a mix of tackling machines and finishers (nice if they can do both - Cyril).

Fritsch in the wrong pocket for a left footer in pouring rain, drop punt. Class!

Has turned his kicking around beautifully.

Full credit to him.

What is it with Goal of the Year this round?  Whoever nominates them has a preoccupation with flukey, dribble kicks from the boundary - one of the three nominees was even described as an accident by the commentators.  Meanwhile, Max roosts one from the center square at a critical time of the game and crickets!

Exactly.  When I saw one of those flukes I thought that Ute told get a nomination.
Like so much today glitz beats class.

I reckon Goody will plug up May’s hole in defense with Hibberd.

Reading, slowly, the first 8 words I was getting a little concerned ?

Over at Arden Street, Ben Cunnington has won his appeal against that dodgy suspension and will play this week.

edit:  Sorry, wrong thread.  Could mods move this to Tribunal thread please?

My son is 4 weeks old tomorrow. He's seen 4 from 4. This run is all him.

Congratulations on the little man's arrival, Adam.

And good to see you managed to keep him away from supporting his Mum's Hawks

We now have 3 of the absolute best in the league in core positions (Gawn, Oliver, Petracca). The latter two create a thorny proposition for other teams: do we tag Petracca or Oliver? Most would say the former because of his ability to kick goals, explosiveness and his better distribution by foot, but Oliver is no bloody slouch. Let him off the chain and you have got someone potentially picking up 40 possessions and sinking your chances. Even when O'Connor went to Clarry, he ended up with 34 possesions.

I reckon if Oliver could average almost a goal a game it would change how he is viewed.  He had three very gettable shots against GWS - if the perception is that if he is tagged he either beats the tag or goes forward and kicks goals, then it makes him and Petracca almost untaggable.

Wasn't sure where to put this but on On the Couch tonight they highlighted some stats:

  1. We are conceding scores from 30.6% of our opposition inside 50s, which is the best percentage ever recorded after four rounds
  2. We have six of the competition's top 21 pressure players (presumably this is measured by average pressure acts per game?)
  3. Our forward half pressure rating is the third highest rating by any club since 2013.

Mongrel takes a team far over the horizon and into the big smoke.

I always thought he was a very reliable said shot.

But wouldnt it hurt tok tag him out and then have him kick 3 goals in a quarter. Very nice.?

He's a very underrated field kick. That kick to Melksham was the perfect example. An undefendable 50m bullet.

I feel he's always struggled with his set shots though. He tends not kick through the ball.

Luke Jackson is about to have a break out game. I hope it comes against the Tigers in prime time.

And it was a thing of beauty! ?

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
