im interested to know what people think of davey's best position on the ground.

personally i am sick of seeing him running around the half back flank/wing area loosing his cool and giving away stupid free kicks like the baker one last night. He has always played his best football deep in the forward line crumming of neitz and robbo, geez, its where we all came to love him and where he finished 2nd in the rising star. So many time last night we had a forward on the lead and no crumming players, where davey's speed would be perfect, instead daniher insits on playing him up the ground where he doesnt attack the ball and tries fancy little tap ons and running around the players where all we need is someone who is hard at it and will take a hit, not try something that looks great if it comes off, but rarely does!

Davey is the main concern but Daniher has made a habit of taking players out of their best postition and 'trying' them somewhere else, which is fine of we are 10 goals up at 3/4 time but not when we are losing. Bruce in the backline, sure it worked once against tarrant but why persist against a player like blake?? Green, midfield or forward please!!

would be nice to see a few players become a bit more settled in their positions, like WJ said in another thread, too many rotations is not a good thing!!

There was a member on here yesterday who suggested that bate be moved forward poickett and i scoffed at the idea. Its not a bad thought tho and with Davey in the other pockett it MAY look better. I think our biggest worry is it doesent matter how many good names u name in the forward (or anywhere on the field), its if they can read the ball and lock the ball in. In the past we have had:

F: Davey Neitz Yze

HF: Green Miller Robbo

They are not bad names and all can kick a goal (except miller), however it seems to me that there are 3 players of thoes who have some way of locking the ball in- Robbo, Neitz and Davey. Pack marks are another issue and last night we had no crummers. The ball was dead for us once it hit the ground. Last night didnt help...this kick to kick stuff allowing saints to flood and god knows its a mirricle if someone can take a mark if there are oposition everywhere not allowing a leading forward. What showed last night also that we never went long to a contest. In the past we have run and carried to the Half Back pockett. Then switched to midfield (centre square area)...held the ball and sent in a long kick to a leading forward or half forward player. We will NEVER win a game this year allowing oposition to flood in our 50 and then when they get the ball run out and obviously there are no defenders for us. Also loose this kicking to one pocket in defence to the other. Several times it was turned over. Some serious questionmarks over where ND plays davey and i would like top see him forward pockett and Bate in the other (which was not my idea...but another members). White should never play forward again as he just cant read the ball and lock it in

He has to stay up forward, especially if our midfield continues to kick over the head of our forwards.

The ball came out of attack last night far too easily. The Saints had all the time in the world to switch and run off.

I'm worried that Davey is thinking that he's too good for the forward line, and he wants to venture into the middle. I hope Daniher doesn't make that mistake though, because Davey is no midfielder.

Could Davey play at FF (like Mark Williams) and have Neitz at CHF? Just a thought. Could work i think but mabey not. What do others think?

No.

I have no problem with Davey playing up the ground where his pace and skills can be used in burst to break oppositions open.

If we are losing leaving him in the FP is akin to benching him. A waste.

However, I thought Davey's performance last night was horrible and his attitude no better than the last time we played them.

Kid needs to grow up.

I remember last year when Davey gave away the 50 that resulted in a goal, he was dragged, and stayed off the ground for a whole minute. Neale said after the game that he had never intended to keep him off for long "because he's Aaron Davey".

The attitude he displays at times needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP. Next time he cocks up, take him off and leave him off for the whole quarter. It's harsh and potentially detrimental to the team, but he needs to learn that he can't get away with giving away stupid frees and 50s just because he's the Flash. Otherwise we risk ending up with Yze Mk II.

I totally agree with you

Liked your comment that if he continues the way he acts he will be YZE II

That will be very frustrating

At the moment I think davey's best position with Pickett coming back would be to take Pickett's sandy guernsey.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
