Carlton got some absolute rubbish frees yesterday. That deliberate out of bounds call... oh boy.

Wow. That's 1.2 extra free kicks for each of the nine wins we've had.

You'd think it would reflect the ladder in some fashion.

Have Richmond players been spitting on umps or keying their cars?

What's going on with West Coast? Only +3. Perhaps the umpire department's advice to umpires is to ignore crowd pressure. Oh that's right. Dean Margetts is not allowed to umpire W.A. games unless that's changed. He was a card carrying West Coast member a few years ago.

Actually, this is exactly what happened. Mid 2018, it started getting a lot of attention that the Eagles had a persistent bias for home decisions and a conscious effort was made by the afl umpiring department to look into it.

Since then the numbers have dropped a lot such that now theres no persistent statistical bias in the decisions for any team over a period of time (but thats no fun. Whinging is fun)  Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield.

They have to equalise the figures somehow without Pies and TWSNBN to consider their members/

It horrible for both teams.

The umpires suddenly deciding that every tackle should result in holding the ball was simply awful.

Prior to the game starting everyone’s favourite commentator don’t expect any holding the ball free kicks today… lol

Absolutely no correlation whatsoever between free kick diff and ladder position, shock horror. Maybe we might eliminate the culture our sport has of relentlessly complaining about the umpiring and blaming losses on it? Nah, of course not.

It's the free kicks that you don't get that hurt the most. Our percentage could be 300%. ?

I could care less

This saying (common in the USA)has always puzzled me as it indicates that there is some level of care.  Surely "I couldn't care less" is more apt as it signifies that you don't care at all.

Yes boss

Richmond's figure is astounding - almost twice as negative as the next worst (ie, -56 to Hawthorn's -30). I wonder why this is the case? After 9 rounds it's surely statistically significant, so what's the cause? Purely conjecture, but I wonder if it's a sign of a team that's struggling and giving away free kicks to compensate for its inability to "keep up". Of course, their natural talent means they are still 8th on the ladder, but I just wonder whether the free kick differential is a sign that they are about to go over the cliff?

He did their game yesterday. So did Jeff 'STAAAAANNNDDD' Dalgleish who is also from Perth.

Thanks for the update. It's like the $$$$ decision came into play and cheaper to use local umpires. I shall wait with bated breath for when we play over there. Hopefully the umpire dept have coached him to see both sides.

Would be interesting to see what the majority of the free kicks are for. In the case of the dogs they generally win a lot more footy then their opponent so not that surprising they would win more free kicks With the way they transition the ball they would put a lot of pressure on opposition in the back half as well creating nervous defenders making mistakes with holding/pushing etc.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
