2020 Player Reviews: #14 Michael Hibberd

The hard working defender conceded just 10 goals in his 14 games for the team and ranked third for intercept possessions this year. He polled ninth in the club's Best and Fairest count and received a contract extension for 2021.

Date of Birth: 3 January, 1990

Votes 2020 Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Memorial Trophy: 179 (ninth)

One of the real good stories this season for mine - looked to be finished but reinvigorated himself and became one of our most reliable defenders

Love this guy

I have to agree with RBT I also thought that he may struggle but was pleasantly surprised by his strong come back in form.

Really tough year for Hibbo, well done Michael. !!!!

Champ. Every time he goes near the ball I shout, 'Hibb-oh-oueh!' at the telly.

Great that Hibberd is playing in 2021 he is still a valuable piece in the backline where he can link and break the lines.

He is as tough as they come and will make his opponent earn the ball. Has kicked goals on the run and is one who does take the game on.

A  real tough nut.

I think he has been a standout player for us. A pity that Melksham can't say the same thing. A 1 year extension is probably right.

An extraordinarily tough year personally losing his brother and yet he played his best season for some time.

He was back to the Hibbo we know and love.

Good on him for turning things around after a poor 2019 and start to 2020. His form in 2017 was brilliant, and this was the closest he has come to that level since. The 1 year extension was the correct call, and he may well get another one if he performs well this year.

Overcame horrible adversity and a significant form slump in 2019, to finish top 10 in the Bluey.  An outstanding effort in the circumstances.   Well done Hibbo!

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.
