I just look at what Max King did yesterday in a final and only his 2nd season and think why can't Weiderman be like that?

Because he isn't as tall and because he doesn't have the help:  Our ruckman rests in defence.  And we don't have another effective tall fwd.

Also the bulldogs defence was very poor yesterday.  Steven May took King to the cleaners so it shows what a decent defender can do.

Max will be a champion.  Sam perhaps not but he will still be a very good player if developed properly.

Not so sure about "very" LH

Speaking of St Kilda, who has the better list? Melbourne or St Kilda?

Melbourne has the better list.

St Kilda has the better coach - which makes all the difference.

I don’t know about better list as such. I think our top four to six players are better than theirs but their bottom six to eight are better and contribute more than ours. Overall I’d suggest their list is more balanced. Agree with the coach comment.

Ben Long has been offered a week’s suspension for that high bump on Jack Macrae. Good to see the MRP taking these head high bumps seriously.

Disappointing as this is to a small Club not a big Club a double standard really.

Macrae was not off the ground permanently so really impact not great.

Plenty of similar incidents overlooked as not enough impact.

IMO Saints  have No real chance of testing Tigers without Long Ryder and Carlisle.

Appeal Saints Even though it's not a great chance of changing going on past cases.

Forgotten the two finals Weideman played in 2018?

Interesting watching the replay it looks like a guy instinctively turning sideways for the impact as most people would to an oncoming player. You are expected not to bump but tackle but in that situation you can open yourself up for a shirtfront. We are talking about nanosecond decisions as to how you will take the collision. Perhaps I need to review the incident again from various angles but I think the decision is harsh. It reminds me a bit of the Viney Lynch collision a few years ago. In the end Viney got off because all he did was brace for the inevitable collision.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
