Any chance of the Hawks pulling off a hail Mary tomorrow?

I'm weighing up my desire to have the Hawks have the improbable win against the doggies against my strong desire to hear the term ' hapless hawks' uttered again this season.

Hard to choose between the two

Yeah look if it wasn't for Marty Hore not being injured, we would hardly see Smith playing.

Or Petty surely.

Personally I like Petty forward. He's a one touch grab. Something our forwards don't do well especially Weideman.

I’m wrapped we won and great to see Rivers & Kossi give a lot!

But can we stop doing stupid things! Kick out strategy, not selecting Lockhart to pick up opposing small forward! Weideman down, so why not move him for 10 minutes!

We have some top players, Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, May, Langdon and I think Viney is a fun if used the right way, so there is potential, but. Coaching has to improve

When we kicked out from their behinds It was the same way nearly every bloody time.

There was also not much movement from our players or quick kick ins. This has been happening for a fair while now and needs to change but I’m not sure Goodwin sees it.

Not really, no.

It's not like he was getting the ball served up to him on a platter but was dropping it or fumbling it. Or running to the wrong spots. Across these last three weeks he's been consistently in the right spots but consistently unable to impact. He's not as far off as the stats suggest.

Our entire team structure in the Sydney and Fremantle losses was appalling, which contributes to the problem.

I'm not excusing his downturn in form completely, he needs to lift, but I don't for a second think we should be dropping him.

Well we have different KPIs for decent game titan -  in my opinion two possession game for a player who played 90% is the very definition of a poor game.

Come on - two possessions, and not single mark for a player who has license to get up and down the ground. You can't seriously suggest that is not a poor game?

He was as bad against Freo and again poor tonight. In the last 3 games he has a grand total of of 16 possessions and four marks, none contested.

But the issue i have is not those numbers - it can be hard for a forward to get possessions (though the odd mark would be nice).

The issue i have is that the last 3 games have all been season defining, must win games. Reputations are made, or not as the case may be i such games. And Weed has been miles off an acceptable level of pressure in all 3 games, tonight included.

As an example he did not lay a single tackle in any of the last 3 games. That is not on.

great noise and excellent boos at the right time

There wasn’t a huge crowd but we were pretty vocal. The players even acknowledged us at the end of the game which was the first time that has happened this season which was good to see.

Look he makes me nervous as [censored] eveeytime he's in a won on won situations and loses his feet far too often. But he keeps it simple unlike Omac.

Dude. I think we only just spoke about this a couple weeks back. :P

Goody was filthy at the journos that presser... Finally

I noticed this too. Was very short with the journos and dismissive of their questions. But I liked it!

Also loved seeing the passion from Goody on the boundary line in the dying seconds of the last quarter. Even though his normally rehearsed speeches don’t show it, the bloke does really care about the club and the players love him too. May said post-match that they all felt for Goody this week and wanted to perform for him tonight. A good sign as it shows the players are still buying the system and have belief in their coach. The pressure isn’t off Goodwin yet, but promising signs tonight.

I don’t know if I’ll survive next week, but today’s win was great. After two really poor performances, it was really important we bounced back tonight - finals or not.

Go Dees!

Ironic seeing people who hated Joel Smith all game now praising his effort. Total fakes

I'll go the other way. I have praised him often previously but he was poor for 3 quarters.

Redeemed himself somewhat in the last quarter - mainly by not screwing up and somehow stopping Cameron mark in the goals square. But i'm happy to concede the Smith experiment needs to end (at least as a defender - i'd love him to go crazy up forward).

And going the other way i thought Tomlinson was good in defence tonight.

Something interesting to note. Rivers post-game said the senior players were helping the kids defend. Then this from May:

Maybe, finally, some proper leadership?

Excellent point - May's leadership and his driving of standards are a huge asset. He's having a colossal impact this year.

Mate, no joke my excuse back then was I was about 12 beers deep.

Tonight it's been a couple of stubbies and a few glasses or Johnny Walker red.

This is my 2nd strike, 3rd one and I'll have a month off the grog.

Watch the last 2 minutes without a defibrillator on standby.

Cheers. I recorded the game as I couldn’t watch it live however missed the last couple of minutes as it must have run slightly longer than scheduled and Foxtel cut the recording. We were 11 up when it cut out.

Weid, seriously just drop him his last few weeks have been crap

We've got one game left for the season mate, what's the point? Win or lose wouldn't you prefer to back the guy in and get another game into him in prep for next year? I know I would.

No voice left..took a second mortgage out for countless drinks at the Gabba. So stoked we got up.

Rivers you star!

So u ended up going GC.

Must admit I was pleasantly surprised with the result.

Heath Shaw only had 5 disposals for the night.. I honestly did not notice him at all tonight and its no wonder why. Usually kills us off half back.

Totally agree, if Jacko is ready though, does he come back in for Brown, I think he does. He would be seriously unlucky but i rate jacko's versatility over Brown's experience.

Would Jacko for fritsch be an option?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
