I think SWYL means that the English rock bands enabled whites around the world,  to aid giving African-American musicians more notoriety and acceptance,  and love.  And so humanising them within Our minds.  Freeing us to allow and engage,  love and respect them purely for their talents.

Particularly Via Radio,  more-so than TV.

As a youngster/teenager,  I was ignorant to what race most musicians were,  just enjoying the lyrics,  music,  mood,  and feel of the songs.

The 60's was a time of growth,  of creativity,  of change,  of growing education,  and of enlightenment.

It was,  "the dawning of the Age of Aquarius".  literally.

There will probably be no one who believes us MFM but I was the same.

Ignorance was bliss I guess.

I think many would find it racist that you think a pommy white boy band took black music back to America.

But that’s exactly what they did.
Black music started to be played on White Mainstream Radio because of British Bands

America didn’t know Black Music before then. White Versions were recorded.
(Pat Boone) sang Little Richard until The Beatles and The Stones arrived

We disagree then mate. Yes we see very poor comments on socials by real accounts, but there is another level where we see outright racism, homophobia, sexism and more that people know is unacceptable so they use a fake account to post it.

That level of abuse will come down to hardly anything with genuine authentication required for setting up accounts I very firmly believe.

The casual racism level of abuse is a far more broad and complicated problem, but overt racism like this example is almost always from a fake account in all the examples I've seen.

Have to agree with this. Yes, there will always be a contingency who wear their bigotry with a bewildering pride, but there is an enormous chunk of the troll-market who would immediately vanish if faced with actual accountability. The only time I could see an avatar as worthwhile would be for forums where people need to discuss highly personal problems (such as whether or not to play Harmes in defence).

I see Nicky Winmar is sueing Sam Newman for saying that the iconic photo of him by Wayne Lubdey was about a gutsy win and not of a proud black man.

That was also my impression at the time and that "never let a good story get in the way of the truth", was the reason that, that was the chosen path. Mike Sheahan agrees with Sam too.

I cant remember who told me that it makes a better story at the time but I thought he was a friend of Ludbey. I dont really care and maybe I have been wrong all these years. But it is interesting that either my recollection or the history of the world is wrong.

Exactly. I was the same with Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters

The British Bands played all these Songs that i loved, i then went back and heard the original versions (Chess Records)

These guys were always cool to me. The concept of them being less than equal did not enter my mind.

Lets hope Nev and his family are ok. Nev has done more for our community than this pathetic and cowardly individual sitting behind a keyboard.

I watched Eddie Betts the other night, it was harrowing. It's terrible he, or anyone else, has to deal with this disgraceful stuff.

There is more than just poor comments on social media by real accounts. There most certainly is outright racism by people using their real names.

Not arguing that it's worse by those who use social media anonymously.

Yes it was, and is something to aim for.

"Controlling and Domination",  are best kept only for the sporting fields,  within reason.   With the AFL playing No Favourites,  RE TV time-slots,  and for the big game arrangements.

"Controlling and Domination" are  'gladiatorial'  at their worst.  and have tsaken the innocence of most in the past 2000 years.  Including the abuse of children under the heavy Cloak of church secrecy.

And if we were true to ourselves racism comes in all colours, not just whites.

Best just get over it and move on.

I'm assuming you're white, Fork 'em?

To say "just get over it and move on" is white privilege. It's so easy, but ultimately hurtful and extremely unhelpful, for a white person to tell non-white people to "just get over it".

For sure, not saying there isn't, but saying the majority of these extremely overt ones we see are from fake accounts (anecdotally of course). Either way, cutting down on fake accounts would absolutely cut down the total amount even if we don't 100% agree on the specifics.

Wasn't always an entirely benevolent force, mind you. A lot of black artists were victims of overt plagiarism without receiving the appropriate compensation. Led Zep in particular were shockers in this regard, but there were many, many more white artists who exploited the lack of legal protection behind the early blues artists' work.

Í" just get over it"

I would say that my tolerance of people with mental problems was not as good as it could have been, I have tended to say oh just get on with life. But recently I had a bout of serious physical ill health that went on for months. After some time it affected me mentally not serious but still I discovered what it was like to walk in someone else's shoes. Easier  said than done " just get on with it".

Actually 'iirc'  i seem to remember a lot of County and Western,  on local TV  from the States,  early in the 60's.

Other than the black and white minstrel shows etc.   Fortunately innocence was bliss, and an excuse.

But education,  a free press,  and free open minded education helps overcome most.

That is the point

That Photo at Vic Park in ‘93 had nothing to do with a gutsy win. Not now and not then.
Gilbert McAddam was there too

I spoke to him about it when Marnbrook was at the ABC

Yes because radio is a great leveler,  using only senses of hearing and of thought/feelings.  Prior to imagery getting in the way of the mind.

Even for children who have/are being bullied badly.   To say never mind is just irresponsible to the child,  and casting them irrelevance.

No. Stop changing my words. I was seeing these guys sporadically on TV and i already knew them on Record. I never once thought they were inferior EVER. They wrote much better songs than anyone else in my opinion, they were heroes to me because of what the British bands had done.

Keith Richards biography was a really good read. Surprisingly he remembered lots!

He spoke about how thrilled he was to tour the US the first time. Not for the fame but the opportunity after their big shows to go and find his heroes in little dive bars and sit in with them and play and learn from them. He saw this as a huge priveledge.

I guess racism gets beaten when people walk a mile in other peoples shoes and people keep an open mind.

It is up to us all not to step over racism and violence to others.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
