Vagg 2,449 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Anyone got any clues how you procure tickets for the Melb-Freo game at Metricon on July 11?? I can't for the life of me see anything anywhere online. Supposedly, they can have a crowd of up to 6000. (Not that a Melb-Freo game on the GC would attract anything like those numbers! LOL) Quote

I know you mean that in jest but it bugs me that whilst 99.999% of Victorians have done the right thing and made all the sacrifices these past few month, just like you Queenslanders, we are the ones that miss on going to the footy. I heard one of your politicians say that Queenslanders have all done the right thing and now deserve to go to the footy. Well so sure as hell have Victorians despite a minority spoiling it for all. 1 Quote

spirit of norm smith 16,680 Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 It’s cruel that one of our great national pastimes has been stripped away. We all love going to the footy. It connects us. It is a social experience. My son only has a meat pie at the footy. “It tastes better at the footy”. In fact so does a cold beer. Always !! Well probably more when we are winning. Hope we can get to the live footy sometime in 2020. It’s a possibility, not a probability unfortunately. 2 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 (edited) The Australian policy has now become obvious and its zero with international borders closed until there is a vaccine. I was very much anti State borders being closed but now that we have the majority of the States near or close to zero the economic benefits that flow from being free of social distancing are enormous. Victoria faces some difficulties in getting rid of the 20 a day that it seems to be suffering but with a hard month or two it should succeed. In the meantime a closure of the NSW border to Victoria makes sense. (if we can't handle that then a pre test followed by another test and one day quarantine when crossing the border... this is what some other countries are doing ...could work as well. ) On that basis Victoria could be where the other States are now in 60 days. So footy crowds in Melbourne for Round 15 are a possibility. Edited June 27, 2020 by Diamond_Jim Quote
Cards13 9,117 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Lol going to the footy is a reward for lock down and it's cruel we can't go? I would have thought not getting a virus that causes an illness with no cure that can kill you or family and friends is reward enough but that's just me. Quote

There are millions of mothers and fathers who are seconded to work in another state/country for many months so really AFL players are no different. But some will chose not to go. So be it. But, I suspect the AFL will understandably have byes to enable clubs to move from one hub to another when players can return home for a short stay. Also, some Vic teams can FIFO to NSW. Play the two NSW and two Qld teams there. Play other Vic teams in Vic. That is about 6-8 rounds and there will be only half a dozen rounds left to end of season. So I suspect consecutive weeks in a hub will be a lot less than 6-7 WCE have in Qld. As a fan, what will be unacceptable is if some teams play others twice and others not at all. I can see the sands starting to shift: The Age: "The AFL maintains that it wants to stick to the stated goal of having every team play one another once, for a total of 17 rounds. It would be much easier to finish the season and keep the broadcasting bucks if the league backflipped and allowed some teams to play twice over 17..." If that happens there is no way the AFL can call this a premiership season. imv each team plays each other once. How they structure the "Finals" is a different matter. Lucifers Hero 40,746 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 SA just put another nail in the season. "... premier Steven Marshall announced on Tuesday morning that: “Any teams coming in from Victoria to SA will have to do that two weeks of isolation, any SA team that plays a Victorian team or goes to Victoria ... will have to do that two weeks of isolation on return to our state.” It would be tough to expect SA teams to again hub interstate. So a WA type hub for Vic teams is likely: Vic teams play each other after 7 days and after 14 days play the two SA teams. Sydney and GWS may be a big winner as the only state that lets teams FIFO and are unlikely to leave NSW for more than a handful of games as they can host vic, and qld teams and at some stage play the wa and sa teams somewhere. Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 I see the AFL are talking of the Melbourne teams being based in an interstate hub for 4-5 weeks. Very optimistic, especially when you add in the two weeks quarantine needed to commence the process. 10-12 weeks with 7 being the optimists view. Like many my care factor for this season is fast diminishing 1 Quote

I appreciate that for the average visitor, quarantine might mean complete isolation, but i could see that it might be different under the protocols the AFL would be putting in place with the health officials in those places.
