spargo will be 23? based on being 21 at EOC this year in previous spreadies?

hunt would fit an essendon?

keen on bedford, jordon, lockhart, mbrown, bradtke to get a year each and nietschke to get one as a rookie.

which would see off hunt, omac, chandler + hannan, preuss, tmac

I take the age at the EOC ie Oct.  Too hard to track birth dates.

Hunt to Ess. Nooo!  I'm hanging out to hear he has a new contract.

Can anyone confirm if Jordan has a contract for 2021?

Was highly rated internally throughout the year. I haven't heard anything since his injury?

Not Yet

Jayden Hunt - get him signed up for 2 years

James Jordan - get him signed up for 1 year

Bedford - wait and see, probably 1 year deal

Nietscke - delist, then rookie list for 1 year deal

OMc- trade or delist

Hannan ?

rookies

Mitch Brown - definitely a 1 year deal

Lockhart- definitely a 1 year deal

Chandler - I think he misses out

Bradtke - cat B Extended for 1 year

Updated for:

  • Hunt's 2 year extension.
  • Reports that Nietschke's was promised a 1 year extension after injury.
  • Those players referenced as possible trades.
  • Brown choosing the Dees (excl trade and contract details).

image.png.4f71ed1aee1446c77d9e39a136513e94.png

Bringing in some draftees, possibly upgrading Lockhart (if we offer him a third season on the rookie list he can walk out as a UFA) and of course Brown (and maybe another, who knows), means we must be odds on to let TMac go in addition to Preuss (with J Wagner the only senior list player to be delisted so far, we could lose all of Hannan, OMac, Jordon and Bedford and possibly still not have enough room).

And that's before we lose senior list spots due to COVID-related shrinkage.

Well done mate. Nev may also go too. Be interesting to see. It might allow us to do the Phillips deal.

Since you asked so nicely..(btw I'm a female ?)

image.png.882bc4cb8fe20638913e141f8da07f42.png

Includes latest pick updates and Hannan and Preuss trades.

We have 35 Senior players and 3 'A' rookies with 3 senior players and 4 rookies still OOC.

We have at least 3 vacant senior spots and 1 vacant rookie spots (final number depends on list size).

Welcome Ben Brown!

Welcome 2 first round draft picks!

@DavidNeitz9I've checked a few websites and they say Bradtke is OOC this year so I'll stick with that for now as one way or another it will be confirmed in the next month.

Welcome 2 first round draft picks!

Adding another player over 100 games is handy to our list profile.

68+ games: Oscar McDonald (?), ANB, Gawn, Jetta (?), Jones, Kolodjashnij (?), Hibberd, Oliver, Salem, Brayshaw, Lever, Hunt, Tom McDonald, Melksham, Petracca, May, Tomlinson, Langdon, Harmes, Brown and Viney. That's 21 players in the zone now.

Along with this core that is old enough now to challenge, we also have less experienced talent that can hold their own week to week: Lockhart, Jackson, Vandenberg, Weideman, Fritsch, Petty, Spargo, Sparrow, Pickett and Rivers. That's another 10 players we can rely on IMO.

31 players that are ready to take the next step with yet another pre season under an elite fitness boss. Plus, we'll either get two young first rounders or one.

Isaac Smith would have been brilliant and I think the club agreed with that and were surprised when he had a change of heart. Had we landed him, I would have been very happy with our haul.

Still, I think we're in the hunt next year with some better coaching and more consistency from more of our players.

Just on contracts, now that we haven't broken the bank with a Treloar or a Phillips, I'd hope we can offer sizeable contract extensions to Oliver and Petracca during this coming off season.

So the list has to be 37-44.

We've currently got 39. If OMac, Bedford and Jordon all stay, we can take a maximum of five more players in the draft, rookie draft, DFA period and SSP period.

I wonder whether we'll go under 44 to save money in the salary cap to work on re-signing Oliver, Jackson and Petracca.

we should be able to resign them pretty comfortably knowing we have some players who have earnt decent coin in recent years OOC next year in jones (former captain), jetta (AA40 man), ANB (best 22), vanders (swans interest), KK. thats a pretty experienced list of probable exits that should make it pretty easy especially as we would have foreshadowed petracca and olivers rise in stature. still hope omac goes to free up another spot, would rather have 17 on the field than the porterhouse unfortunately

So Oscar, Bedford and Jordan are out of contract or am I misunderstanding?

Don’t know why folks are worrying about contracts. With clubs and players breaking contracts they are becoming meaningless. Becoming more and more like professional sport in Europe and the US.

I'm going to assume Nietschke hasn't officially been contracted and say that at this stage we've got 32 on the list signed up and 0 cat A rookies. The aim is to get to 38 and 4, plus until I know better Bradtke as a B.

10 total list spots. 6 main, 4 rookies. I'd say good bye to Mitch Brown and Oscar.

Then we've got 5 more out of contract: Bedford, Jordon, Chandler (r), Nietschke, Lockhart (r).

We can keep all 5 and have 5 draft picks. As it stands it would be 3 main list and 2 rookies. But we can move a main list player (Nietschke) down to the rookie list and go 4-1.

Look I agree totally with above. I would also try T Mc at CHB ( his old role where he played excellently ) Lever one flank and Hibberd the other and move Salem to the wing with Langdon on the other wing. Problem solved.

Nietschke has been promised an A list spot for 2021

What about KK?

Will they retire him and free up a spot?

I think they will hold off until the 2021 Mid-Season Drafts (to be held monthly in 2021) and negotiate a retirement with KK if they need the list spot to draft someone.  Because there has been little exposed form for this year's draftees, this could easily happen.

The same might happen with Jones or Nev if the club needs other list spots mid year.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
