From a seventeen year old future football star I'd be happy if they could grunt the words 'I like football and girls'. The rest we can work on over the years.

How about, 'I like swimming pools and [censored]'?

Yeah, I think he was a bit older than that when he said that.

You’re still not paying attention. It’s about engaging the left side of the brain and getting more honest answers to the subsequent questions. The weird questions themselves and their answers are irrelevant. What’s the harm?

So you agree the question and answers are irrelevant.

You got there in the end.

Not at all ding

I and many others thought @Mach5's comments reasonable and probably the most accurate assessment of the question. That's all.

Obviously there’s no guarantees but Kemp has all the tools to become a Bontempelli/Fyfe type of player and the only reason he won’t be a top 5 pick is due to his knee injury. I’ve watched several of the U18 matches in their entirety and I can see the Bont/Fyfe resemblance.

I just feel that if he is there at pick 8, we take the long term view and pick him. Hopefully the club feels the same.

Brodie Kemp is the one player I saw in 2019 apart from Rowell and Anderson that I think can be a superstar.  Has the pace and strength and footy skills to be Dangerfield like.  His injury keeps him out for 2020 but his upside is he’d be ready to go round 1 2021.  Young might be the safe bet at 3 and I agree BUT if Kemp is available at 8, we simply could not afford to let him go

From the story.......

Kemp might’ve sat out on the draft combine due to his knee injury, but it didn’t stop Sydney asking the utility a puzzling question during the interview process.

“(There was) a fake spider, big blue ball where you squeeze it, jelly, a puzzle and one of those slap bracelets,” he said.

This sort of garbage would have me walking out of an interview. Psychobabble has invaded far too many areas of the AFL, and if it helped you identify a future champion i would be absolutely flabbergasted.

Only people who rate Mission Statements would believe a question like this could help identify a future champ. A 17-18 year old male has tons of mental development left, and his answer would change practically every year. Word wankery at its best.

Cue the triggered Psychologists..........................

That this would make you walk out of the interview is pretty revealing. It's worth including just for that.

It "reveals" i have a very low tolerance for psychobabble.

That some think it is a good idea says how easily conned they are.

But, you know, knock yourself out.

Interesting article with a great quote from Adam Cerra   "

“I got asked whether the fact I want to buy a house in a few years meant I was financially driven to play football,” Cerra said.

“I think they were just trying to make a hard question out of nothing."

Maybe. You're going to walk out of an interview with Kinnear Beatson, Simon Dalrymple and John Longmire because you know better.

Yep.

Ofc if you asked me when i was 17 and wet behind the ears the answer would probably be different.

If anyone can show me some proof it assists in identifying a better footballer im all ears. Facts, not feelings. I reckon i will only hear crickets.

So, highly paid professional coaching outfits roll out a question, that you feel as bogus, and it’s contingent on us to disprove your random claims..?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
