Not being a game-day test they were only testing for PED’s and not prohibited drugs. I think it’s pretty clear what has happened.

It's funny; they don't consider illicit drugs performance enhancing except on game day. While I know of the adverse effect, wouldn't any drug that helps you on game day also potentially help you during training/preparation?

I was under the impression that WADA tests for both PEDs and illicit drugs anytime whereas ASADA only does PEDs.

Is that true @Ethan Tremblay?

This could indicate who tested Willy and what substance he was trying to aviod showing up.

I’m not 100% sure, I just know he was tested on a Tuesday and they only tested for PED’s and not prohibited drugs. Regardless, I’d still be [censored] myself if I had testers rock up to my door on a Tuesday and I’d taken something prohibited I shouldn’t have.

Of course the WA media are only reporting that he tested negative, they fail to mention they didn’t test for prohibited drugs (not that the test results have any bearing on what he did). Ahhhh the Eagles loving WA media..

a hun article here today reported he was given a subsequent blood test and was negative for peds and illicits. it didn't say what the time delay was between the urine test and the blood test but implying it was soon after.

not making any suggestions, just the messenger

Either way, it’s abnormal behaviour for someone who doesn’t have anything to worry about. If anyone believes the story he and the Eagles are running with, give me a call I had some magic beans to sell.

The article I read stated he was only tested for PED’s and returned a negative result. I don’t doubt at some stage he was tested for both though as reported in the HUN.

no doubt there is a lot of uninformed bs floating around and a plethora of apologists.

interesting the afl's first comments were about willie's well being and supporting him, but nothing much about the evils of drug taking and abuse of procedure. they are obviously reluctant partners with asada/wada

i think 4 years suspension seems a bit harsh (given my understanding) but it may be what they are forced to give, given the rules. also disappointed that willie hasn't at least fessed up if he had taken illicits recently, which seems logical.

I think the AFL want to keep rec drugs out of this schemozzle at all costs. Doesn't suit their narrative dc

Why didn't he drink the drink instead of putting it in the cup? Matthew Lloyd said last night on FC when he was 16 he had to do a sample, the testers were there at 6 and he couldn't provide a sample until 10. I guess Rioli just got impatient and frustrated. Unfortunately now the rumour mill goes into overdrive.

During "on the couch"   Brownie, said once he couldn't go for about 4 hours. He went to the bar and drank a few while the offical sat next to him, till his bladder was ready. Apparently according to the rules they cannot provide advice or intervene in what the player does.  He said at Brisbane they alway had a club official/club doctor to make sure you follow the rules.  Maybe methcoke needs to implement that process.

I can't believe how stupid it was for the AFL to push for non game day testing of recreational drugs. And if i was a player i would refuse to play a single cent to the AFL players association after they agreed to it. I said at the time it would be a nightmare for all concerned and nothing that has occurred since has changed my view.

Be that as it may Willie tested positive to marijuana on game day. So he is stuffed. As he should be. I very much doubt he actually consumed it on game day but THC can stay in the system for up to a month. Which surely he knows.

I understand this was a seperate test but it makes the Eagles defence of ‘he only tampered with the sample because he couldn’t urinate and was frustrated’ look very flimsy.

not only separate but 2 weeks after gatorgate and on a game day (+ve for cannabis)

what was he thinking, after the first episode?

Arguably, he may not have known about the investigation into him substituting the sample. Most likely, the official would have noted it down and the test would then have been conducted to confirm if it was urine. There would have been no notification to Rioli by the on site official that this was been noted as it may have hampered the investigation. I know some have said he provided a second sample, but I don't know how true that is.

even if he didn't know he was rumbled on first occasion, you would think he would be a bit more circumspect in the time following that episode, and certainly avoid anything that might show up on a game day

But as someone posted it can stay in system for up to a month. Therefore when he tampered with the sample he may have used it a few days before and he was concerned. Then second test a couple of weeks later may still show traces.

Well... This narrative just changed. I'm sure the West Coast PR Spin Department are going into overload at the moment trying to figure out how to fix this.

They’ll blame ASADA for putting him under stress after charging him with tampering with a sample, ‘he smoked a bong or two to de-stress’.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
