Mahoney is one of the few that should stay.

We need to stop shooting everyone within the club and recognise those with ability who can contribute going forward

Came to our club as an assistance coach and has somehow moved his way into operations and seems to often evade the scrutiny despite being at the center of a lot of the clubs decisions and now being the one to lead the internal review. Known to be a poor negotiator come trade period and an ex team mate of Chaplin who also seems to be escaping scrutiny despite the defence Roos installing being wiped.

Should Mahoney be under more heat?

His post playing career so far

  • Forward Coach at Demons 2008-2011 (No prior experience).

•Football Administration at Demons 2011-2013  (On Mark Neelds appointment) (No Prior experience)

•Promoter to general manager of operations 2013-Present.(No prior experience)

In his time at Demons we have only made finals once yet this is the man who is in charge of our internal review. He has no experience at all outside of the experience Demons have given him.

•He was present for tanking debarcle

  •Present for Mark Neeld debarcle

  •Present for Mitch Clark debarcle

  •Present for Toumpas/Watts/Blease/Tapscott/Cook/Morton/Gysberts/Scully/Strauss/Trengove debarcle

  •Present for 2019 debarcle

  •Present for Lever/May debarcle.

Yet has always avoided responsibility and seems to have gotten a free ride up the ranks.

Olisik: present for spelling debacle.

As for Josh M, I have only ever heard positives but sure, blame him for everything that's gone wrong in his time and credit him for none of the gains.

I would be the last to blame him for things going wrong...well certainly  not just him.  But he is curiously among it all. Kudos to him as being a survivor.

We can't afford to wait...Bartlett can check his ego at the door and get a review under way.

He’s hardly sitting pat; he’s making bulk moves and didn’t even wait until the season was over to begin restructuring. No time wasted.

Or covering his own [censored] quick smart.

How any review of a dept by themselves can be taken seriously  beggars belief.

Didn't the Tiges at the end of 2016 conduct their own review. That worked out well for them!

What exactly are you saying needs to be reviewed by an external party? The structure or ability?

Also if you're saying if Mahoney isn't qualified for the position (that he and the MFC need an external expert to do his job for him) then who would you have replace him?

What im saying is very simple..so keep up

You dont review yourself.

Do we need an external reviewer...like duh !!

haha, just say I have no idea rather then wasting time writing without substance.

An external review would only be called for if the whole club had no idea what it's doing or needed help in x area (because of lack or qualified personnel or expertise).

If you're saying Mahoney is not qualified - who is?

Although I do agree with the whole boys club thing. Its rife through the AFL and starts at the top. How does Lethlean get another job in the AFL?

Strangely  well summed up.

We actually  dont know that the club has no idea. Its a very good point.

There are people/companies that do external reviews. In fact there's  a whole big world out there.

You're  very defensive of Mahoney.

I only care about the jumper..the vlub..the personnel  ...whatever.

Im very defensive against mediocrity and bull excrement.

Only a fool has himself as legal counsel.  Only a foolish club isnt prepared to allow an outside unbiased  review. We're  floundering big time...drowning  not waving.

I'm not defensive of Mahoney. I'm asking questions regarding accusations made by you and others in this thread.

I dont believe anyone is beyond criticism or scrutiny after this season. Im all for reviews of all positions and abilities.

For example if Neal Balme became available wed be crazy as a club to not look in to.

I think you need to be very clear about what your asking for. The board would review Mahoney not himself. And if your asking for an external review exactly what areas do u want reviewed?

As a real life example. Why didnt the bulldogs make mass changes after their disasters? Did they make mistakes? What can we learn from their experiences?

Pretty sure Pert mentioned in the Inside Melbourne pod that Mahoney is moving into more of a CEO role at Casey next year. Another strategic movement to further his career but also some fresh air at MFC

Can you pinpoint at which time in podcast Pert said/alluded to this.  Have listened twice but can't find it.

How on earth is that [censored] covering? Your attempt at logic beggars belief.

After their disasters:

  • Do you mean before Bevo was appointed coach.  At the end of 2015 2014 they sacked their coach and traded out their captain.
  • Do you mean after the premiership and they fell to 10th in 2017?  They retired their captain and an ex-captain. They traded out a leading goal kicker and fan favourite (Stringer).  They read the riot act to a few 'untouchables' eg Liberatore, Dahlhaus.  They sacked their List Manager/favourite son (Jason McCartney) who had compiled their premiership team.

The Bulldogs have not shied away from the tough decisions on players or staff regardless of club loyalties and done so without fear nor favour.  I hope our club can do the same.

Edit:  change 2015 to 2014

No concept of someone  covering their tracks...or just no concept ?

Either way your stance hardly surprises.

I get it mate, you just want someone to blame regardless of the reality. Understood.

After

As do i. I hope the hard decision get made. We just haven't gotten to that stage yet (lets discuss agaim on 12 months).

Still insure of what the expectations are considering we have a lot of recent history from other clubs

Hmmm...I would think our Prelim to 17th (5 W) is worse than their Premiers to 10th (11 W) - remembering that Bulldogs also had a very young team at their zenith.

Not suggesting we make the same changes the Bulldogs did at end of 2017 but if we delay the hard decisions another 12 months it can do untold damage to the club.  I say that if there are issues on or off the field deal with them now.

In Mahoney’s time at the club we have been through a huge range of leaders, from Presidents, to CEOs to Coaches.  All of them have had the opportunity to remove Mahoney, but none of them have- to the contrary, he’s been consistently promoted.

If Peter Jackson and Paul Roos were both happy to at first retain him, then develop and promote home- then he’s fine by me.

They didn't sack their coach, he resigned because Gordon took over and traded Griffin to gws for Boyd.

Check your facts:  Gordon took over in 2012.  McCartney did not resign he was sacked (at end of 2014), apparently had lost the players.  Griffen asked to be traded (at end of 2014) because he wanted to join Cameron and didn't get on with McCartney.

Not true, my info comes from assistant coaches there at the time. Gordon went over the football dept. and made the decision to trade Griffin for Boyd and that is fact.

I dont disagree but we can't comment on things that haven't happened yet.

The questions were about who was making those decisions

Yes it was Gordon that insisted on Boyd in Griffen trade but only after Griffen insisted on going to GWS.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

  • GAMEDAY: Sydney

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
