I think you are grasping at straws RG.

RG is correct that Governments and Opposition parties will use creative language when necessary to give them subsequent wriggle room should they want to do something (or not do something) which they were to politically scared to support (or oppose) prior to an election. I'm not saying, however, that in this instance that any non-specific response should be presumed to disguise a particular position.

I am not sure it is such a great idea anyway LDC. I think the NO Case has some merit.

I would love something close to the MCG but I simply cannot see this getting up.

Most likely  Dan will get back in but will need to help of the Greens ( sadly) in that scenario  there is not a snow flake in Demons Hell of it getting up.

Is there a No. 2 option?

It would appear not so at Goschs we stay.

Agree OD

this always had a very low chance of success and one wonders why they even announced it without getting some form of indicative advance approval.

Taking a step back there is just no support for impacting public space to the relatively exclusive benefit of an elite sporting code.

Need to find an existing structure that a council no longer wants to pay for its upkeep. There will always be a problem with sharing especially with cricket.

One thing is for certain it won't get easier finding a suitable location.

I was undecided who to vote for now it is an easy choice.

Vote Labor!

I can't believe anyone would ever vote again for a party that signs a pre-election agreement to send a billion tax payer dollars to their construction mates if their freeway isn't built and I wouldn't listen to the 'equally bad' nonsense, it's just a disillusioned lib talking point to disguise them all as indistinguishable from each other. Re-opening tafes is more important than building new AFL facilities. So maybe the Yarra Park facilities should be geared more towards education and learning. Sports science, training etc with MFC facilities tacked on, to get approval. Probably not the place for a digressing political discussion though, oops.

What about Victoria park that is empty?

I almost put that suggestion in but I don't think we could stomach it.

The black and white stands along with the big magpie are heritage listed as I understand it.

The better strategy would be to mount a sentimental campaign for Collingwood to relocate to Victoria Park. We could then take over Olympic Park

No chance LDC they know when they are on a good wicket and in ain't at Vic Park.

thought it might be but it does underscore what few alternatives are left.

Perhaps we could encourage North to relocate to Tassie and take over Arden Street.

Royal Park and Albert Park would be worth a look. They are designated sporting precincts.

A little further out is Fairfield/Yarra Bend park

I think they have a half life longer than plutonium dc.

Honestly While the current situation is not ideal I struggle to see it will prevent us winning a flag over the next few years.

IMO it is not vital to our chances.

As for the social club bit very few people go to them in the second decade of the 21st Century.

Agree... it's mainly the gym and admin complex that we need to locate near an oval.

I think it's important in the longer term simply because the other clubs will have great facilities and it will be a possible discriminator in player choices.

Probably true DJ.

Ok How about Cranbourne? I hear there is a ground available out that way.

The proposal for the new building is 100% on the rail reservation with no encroachment onto Yarra Park! As for the oval, what it will mean is that the area will be curated grassland available to the public all except for 5-6 hours training per week (which fall between the most popular early morning late afternoon dog walking hours)! Currently, with event parking and events themselves, public access is compromised/denied for more hours than that. I think my fellow residents should take their blinkers off and think this through!

Like most things the Greens go on about it has little to do with fact and a lot to do with emotion.

Logic will get very little chance here CBDees

If Victoria Park is actually contaminated and potentially dangerous to the players health would that rule us out but the Bombers in?

That's why I suggested mounting a sentimental campaign rather than one based on common sense or logic. It's amazing the foolish things the human race will do in response to sentimentality.

(Next you'll be arguing that anyone associated with Collingwood aren't actually part of the human race. Can't argue with that.)

The current President of the East Melbourne Group just loves to head off to VCAT. He is not your average football loving Aussie and, as for negotiating style, he has never heard of the concept of WIN-WIN as an option where all parties emerge with a great outcome!

I find it amazing the sentimental stuff around the MFC needing to be "at" the MCG.

If Hawthorn can be at Arctic Park and Dingly Why not the Dees at Cranbourne

Try and get the players out there to train 'old dee'...

That move would torpedo any idea of us being a destination club...

Arctic & Dingley are right on the Monash, an easy trip from the leafy Easterns.

Cranny is a bridge too far.

Got to love Politics.  Both major parties need to bow down to the Greens as they really hold the balance of power and to win the election you need Green preference votes.

Only if Dan Andrews didn't keep the Greens happy with the East West link we would have a completed freeway linking all our freeways.  We are 4 years behind with a new project that really is a band aid.

Inner city need to get off the Green band wagon so one party can make proper decisions rather than worry about keeping a minority happy

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
