Nobody on here is as sure of their knowledge about draftees as you.

Good for you Axis

Spargo would kick 6 a game at SANFL reserves level.

The Pickett stuff is hilarious.

Of course he would!

he's very, very small

An asset when courageous, in front of goal, within eyesight of the umpires.

We’re taking about the same player right? The 170cm guy who kicks one goal every second match? What attributes does he have that have shot him up the draft boards suddenly?

He’s not a big goal scorer - averaged 0.5 goals a game at senior SAFL level.

He’s got a good leap - but he needs to have a good leap to even just be competitive at 170cms.

He’s quick, but not elite quick - not in top 20 tested.

He has poor-average endurance - doesn’t find much ball, averaged 10 touches.

His best attribute is he provides good defensive pressure around packs in the forward line.

Statistically he’s identical to Charlie Spargo. IMO the best outcome for his career would be an in form Jeff Garlett. Don’t get me wrong, he could be a handy little small forward and have a decent career, but at pick 8 you can pick up much better than that. It would be negligent for the club to draft him at pick 8.

Interesting statements of clarification and tempering, at that, too. We need to watch for him more carefully to find credible potentials.

Pickett may or may not be the answer or us.

But if we don't find some small forwards we will never win a flag.

1964, I mean come on.

How many times has anyone else on here 55?

Yes indeed, I believe any sensible person with experience of the varying and unreliable outcomes of draft predictions would be hesitant to make definitive statements.  Even more so when they have never seen the players live.  You don't seem to have this type of prudence.

How many times have you seen him live in action @Rusty Nails ?

So posters need to watch players play a complete season to have an opinion these days? Bit of an elitetist mentality you would think.

Would be a very quiet forum if it was the case.

Anybody can have an opinion, but some are worth more than others. Would you listen to Madonna’s opinion on Australian monetary policy? Or my opinion on pet fashion trends?

In my opinion, the Dunning-Kruger curve is excellent.

All of which could have been expressed in one classic line...

"opinions are like $%@% everybody has one"

No, not really, but it's absolutely no surprise you're sure of that.

Opinions are more like genitals. Only half the world wants to impose their peculiar ones on others.

Don't think those stats are very flattering.

Avg 7 disposals and 0.5 goals in SANFL albeit only playing 2 games. His SANFL reserves goals average is boosted by his 6 goal effort. 2 goals in 3 games at the U18 championships.

I think he's exciting and would be a crowd favourite but no way would we select him at 3 or 8.

I would not be taking him in the teens or 2nd round

Living in WA I've seen plenty of potential young indigenous forwards like him.

Room for improvement and could end up the real deal, but not in the Elijah Taylor or Liam Henry class

That’s not what I’m saying.

I’m saying that to be so sure of your own opinion comes either from the sort of knowledge that can be gained only from years of dedicated study to the exclusion of almost everything else ..... or almost no knowledge.

Or another way is that, whilst having an opinion is ok, I think that you should be more open to the possibility that you you may not be right.

Of course Bob.  I'm only going on vision seen and draft reports from others considered experts and who, if you believe their background write ups, have supposedly seen the players they are rating live.

Much of what i say is tongue in cheek from the armchair and i'm fully aware that my knowledge base / experience is at amature level.  Sometimes i even lead (or finish) the odd post stating that fact.  But i also don't feel it necessary (and it would be pretty bloody boring) if i mentioned that every time.  I figure most regulars would know it by now anyway and won't be taking anything i put up as anything other than just another bog ordinary opinion and/or have put me on 'ignore' already.

Tbh who the hell (at a meaningful AFL level) is going to take any notice of what i say anyway.  It's certainly not going to have any impact on draft outcomes nor people's own views (draft preferences) on here.

Good stuff, RN. A classy response.

I’m happy that you’re excited about the draft and I (and many others) genuinely appreciate the information you bring into these threads. The absence of uncertainty is just a bit of a bugbear of mine (and obviously old55 too).

I hope that you continue posting frequently in the lead up to, and after, the draft, as it’s clear that you are obviously doing a lot of research on the kids and that makes Demonland a better forum. ?
