Training 11th July

Let's cut to the chase - Gawn did the full session.

Rehab - T Smith, Billy, Tom Sparrow, Melk.  Billy was running laps and still looks a while away, Tommy and Melk doing some kicking and TSmith mainly running from what I saw but I was a little late.

Unsighted: TMac, Hore, Neita, Walker, JSmith, AVB, KK, Garlett

The rest all appeared to do the whole session.

A real mix of drills, three quarter ground drills, centre clearance work, goal kicking for the forwards, specialist ruck, high marking for the talls, spoiling for Jetts, specie practice for Hannan.

I had a good look at Dunkley and liked what I saw.  Good by foot and clean hands.  Other than that just a normal training session.

Great to hear. What do you think will be the likely changes mate?

Thanks mate! Best part of this site!

May I interrogate a little...

Fritta look ok to play this week?

Thoughts on Jetta playing VFL or AFL?

Who was leading the technique instruction for the goal kicking?

By any chance, did May train with the forwards at all?

Cheers!

Fritta did the full session training with the mids from memory.  Rawlings was with the forwards as they did the goal kicking which consisted of boundary line snaps and kicking to the front of the goal square from 50 out on the boundary.  May didn't train with the forwards.

Jetts did the full session but as for playing AFL or VFL I've no idea.  I'd play him AFL if he's fit enough but really I've no more idea on that or the other changes than anyone else.

Thanks heaps for passing on so much info mate! Really appreciate it.

Have hopes for this kid. More games this year, another pre season and some concentrated gym work could see him become a regular.

I noticed yesterday at the jnr clinic that they have added an extra set of posts about 1m inside the normal goals posts I assume to help with goal kicking. Not sure how long they have been there as I haven't been to training since preseason. Just thought it was an interesting tool.

Lever and Jetta will also return, having both dealt with knee injuries this season.

Both made their comebacks via the VFL last week. Lever is set to play just his second AFL match this year, while Jetta will return after three months on the sidelines.

Despite their lengthy spells out of the team, Goodwin said he has no hesitation in picking both for Sunday's important clash at Marvel Stadium.

They were at the city road end when I went in preseason around the end of January.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

It was only a preseason match but the new look Demons spearheaded by new coach Steven King looked impressive as they put on a clinic against perennial cellar-dwellers North Melbourne as they cruised to an 80 point victory at Casey Fields.
