Preuss’ version in the circle after the Sydney game was closer to the Woiwurrung version than the original.

What is Woiwurrung for 'Do something about your ball-drop' and 'follow through properly'? Get a few of our players to memorise it in a second language, it might just stick, mindfulness style.

For that matter, to celebrate indigenous culture we could definitely embrace a bit more of the traditional mentor-based teaching instead of the modernist classroom-as-factory approach, that's for sure.

This is a great initiative from the club, starting last year with the great song being covered in the Arrente language here in Alice Springs, something the locals were very impressed with.

well done MFC.

It will be great to see the Whiz back on the G where he did his best stuff.

I'd endorse those sentiments, but a very small point of order:  It's 'Wiz' ( short for The Wizard) not 'Whiz' (what we do at a urinal).

Well if we win they should try and sing it after the game in the language. But it would be hard to learn. It will be great to hear the song in a different language.

"It's a Grand Old" Flag sounds good in any language, but this is will be special. The Wiz is a favourite in our household. Tears were shed and jumpers sadly packed away when he left the club.

Our club song is the best club song with a catchy tune and it sounds even better when we sing it after an important win.

Sounds great in Woiwurrung.  DOO-KOO-D KUNG-KARA MARR....EVERY HEART BEATS TRUE.      Go Dees!

Every heart beats true

For the red sand and blue sky

And as we sing this song to you

We are remembering the old people

Keep you eye on the red sand and blue sky

Love this indigenous reinterpretation of our theme song.

GO DEMONS!!!

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
