Agree,

If selectors think that a player is good enough to get a game in the ones, then the player should be given a number of consecutive games to prove their worth. At least a minimum of 2 games and maybe 3 or 4.  Totally opposed to selecting a player for their first game and dropping them a week later.  It damages the players confidence and almost says'to everyone that the player should not have been selected in the first place. Sure there are players who put in a shocker in their first game, but that normally tells you that the player should not have been selected in the first place. Petty is an example.

Spot on. Roosy used to play them for two games even if they were a ghost in the first.

I disagree.  Lockhart is a very natural footballer.  Hore reads the ball in the air as well as any we have on the list.

Both have some physical limitations but both are natural footballers.

Battlers by my intentions was players not versed with natural skills but they battle on.  Big hearts.  Battle on.  Key going despite adversity.  Neither are naturally gifted.

Petracca and a few more could learn from them about the struggle to realise your dream and then finally have it.   I was a fan of them both as VFL Players.  So DD LOL you caveman.

Rubbish

What the hell does "not naturally gifted" even mean?

Does it mean that they aren't as good as other footballers on our list? Of course they're not.

Is it that they weren't high draft picks?

Or that they don't look as classy as Oliver or Salem?

I'd say they are excellent role players who are still developing.  They'll never be stars, but they are already showing some good value to the team.

Happy with that.

I was about to ask the same thing, I’m not even sure what it means. Is Dangerfield naturally gifted or does he rely on his size and burst speed? Because he’s a very average field kick.

Rubbish indeed DD.  Maybe SONS would like us to get in some more naturally gifted players like Morton, Watts and Toumpas.

Hore and Lockhart are going beautifully.

That’s my opinion.  Plenty of trolls on here ready to shoot you down for an opinion. Both Lockhart and Hore have had to work hard to get into AFL and it shows in how they play.

My point is plenty of low draft picks seem to be naturally talented (yes like Morton, Toumpas and Petracca even) but their work rate.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

To be fair... tracs has been playing ok the last two games... been a bit more pressure in his game. I get the feeling that trac has taken over from Watts.

Wonderful goal that really capped Hore’s rapid improvement in disposal since round 1. Sticking his tackles too. Well done.

Lockhart just does some real footballer things - holds some good marks, bursts from packs, reads the bouce of the ball. A bit down from last week and he has to hit more targets to do more damage but he’s such a change from the rest of our battlers who usually get the half forward jobs.

It is good to see a couple of "neglected"players bob up and are starting to adjust to the tempo. THey both seem to be learning each week. Locckart's last couple of weeks have  been more productive in that he is gaining confidence and getting more of the ball. Marty Hore seems to be able to read the play and be in the right position a lot of the time. Great to see.

Think some people on here are missing the huge amount of work Trac has been doing on the inside.

Me too.

If we can develop the young blokes we drafted this year, I'd be happy with that too.

If we can draft and trade in some more skill and pace, I'd be happy with that too.

If we can reduce our injury list and get the blokes we need back on the park, I'd be happy with that too.

If we can stop fumbling and learn to pass to our forwards, not their opponents, I'd be happy with that too.

You can see it doesn't take much to make me happy.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
