What happened to the holding the ball rule?

JHK walking in the rooms. Great news.

That non decision on Hodge was a shocker.  Picked it up, got tackled, let the ball go... nothing.  It's reflective of the umpiring so far today.

It was a serious hyper-extension, so i wouldn't be celebrating too soon. Wait until the scan before we start thanking some deity.

How good has Smith been?

Lewis has been very good.

He is a calm head out there for us.  He, Salem and Hibberd can give us some great run and ball use from half back.  Feels like it's taken a term and a half for them to click.

Great lead up and inside 50 by Weid. Just needs to get more of it!

And Trac nailing a set shot for the first time in forever! He's having a great game so far.

Get injured!? ?

play safe, lose form, and struggle with confidence.

...  and injuries can happen from playing not on instinct.

This IS the game we should be showing our form... running into the H&A season.   And they haven't turned up to play.  Tthey've turned up, to not get out of the team.

Too many around here,  saying don't get injured,  hurts the players psyche.   Tthis is why we are struggling.

Yet Tracca is trying hard,  because he has a burning arrse,  from the fire put under him.

We are two points down.  But, apparently, our backline is trash, they're running rings around us and we are stinking it up completely.  Can't wait to see when we're on, we'll win games by 150 points.

Most of the comments were based on the first quarter - and warranted.  Significant improvement since then clearly.

I guess he can kick set shots. Great lead and kick Trac.

Just about his best lead for his entire career. He is so explosive and played his entire junior career in the forward line.

I'd have him as our third 'tall' and have Smith use his athleticism to pressure the contest.

Huge tackle from Trac! This is the best game I've seen him play in a long time.

I really hope we are playing at 40%......If not we have a bit to do.

one week out from AFL season... we've got a bit to do.

Holding the ball? Nope. I guess that rule is gone now too.

We don't seem to have addressed our inability to lock the ball in the forward line as per last week's issues.

Ground ball keep coming straight back out when our forwards can't clunk it.  Maybe Brisbane has dropped a lot of numbers back but it looks too easy for them.

I really dislike Rhyse Matheson....

3 guys around Cameron and no one close to him on edge of goal square. FMD

He's a soft mid with poor disposal.  Plays for frees from Duckwood's handbook

I think you're referring to Christensen there GCDee. He came out of the ducking factory of Geelong so no surprises.

Any chance of looking for a target in the forward 50 instead on just bombing it 20m out from goal?

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
