You might be right but Kayo like Netflix is a different product to Foxtel.

Foxtel required a physical boxto be delivered, long term contracts etc. It wasn't an impromptu purchase by any means.

On the other hand Netflix and the modern streaming apps are just click a few times on your phone and you're away.

Sorry DV8 I'm no expert on mobile sim plans but have a look at this section of Whirlpool.

PS the closest I ever came to being a DJ was playing the Hot August Night album at full volume !!

Funny you should mention HAN. I was doing exactly that on a Saturday afternoon.

Big development...

the Kayo Android TV app is now out and available on Google Play

Search for "kayo s" as just kayo does not show it.

Let the games begin

You need AOS version 7.1 on your TV so you may have to update your TV software

since the app was launched on Monday there is a new 20 odd pages on whirlpool.

Most of it is positive but I have noticed most posters are talking about loading it onto various media boxes such as Nvidia Shield. Have not noticed too much commentary about a vanilla installation on a TV itself.

The apps still not available on Samsung smart tvs.

yeah it seems that Samsung and I think LG are on the "too hard"list for the moment

Not sure why as for example Sony appears to work well

Samsung was incompatible with ABC I view for a long time which caused a lot of gnashing of teeth in our house!!

Sony runs Android TV, Samsung and LG do not. So they require different apps with different coding that the developers have said isn't worth it for now. Android TV has more platforms so was preferenced.

I just bought a new tv Sunday and was tossing up between Sony and Samsung. Picked up a Sony based solely on it having Android TV (and built in Chromecast). I've just been watching the JLT on there and it is flawless, 1080p, better than my iq2 which I think maxes out at 720p. Tested some live streams too and it was perfect.

Native tv app is still going to be less stable than Appletv or the like and I had it crash a couple of times for me yesterday when testing out but I assume there bugs will get ironed out. Appletv works perfect too, 1080p and can't tell the difference between this and Foxtel. Still not 100% sold that it'll stand up once the real stuff begins (I'm picturing an Optus/world cup deal for Rich/Carl and Coll/Geel) but as if now I can't fault it.

I should mention I'm on Bigpond cable 100mbps so those on adsl probably won't have the same experience

The only downside is no NFL On demand by that just gives me an excuse to buy game pass :)

Dumb question coming up.

I just bought a Chromecast Ultra and naively thought I could download a Kayo app on to the device and not just stream it from my phone through Chromecast.

I’m thinking of now getting an Apple TV instead where there is an actual Kayo app.

Is there any way to watch through Chromecast through an app and not just stream from my phone?

Hi Clint

as I understand it Chromecast is a good but "dumb" streaming device so no.

It also has no wifi itself. It is taking the stream from your connected device.

Apple TV seems to work well according to the techos on whirlpool.

The main issue they are talking about is whether the devce has an automatic mechanism to alter the refresh rate from 50 to 60 to cope with the different streams. I think Apple TV has that ability but worth checking

Yes, used VPN for foxtel now last year, assuming Kayo would be the same

You can begin the cast from your phone to Chromecast and then exit the app to do other things while the stream continues on the tv.

Appletv works flawlessly but a more expensive option so depends what you want I guess

chromecast does have wifi

you can stream via a phone/tablet or it could be a PC/laptop using the google app, so clint could just instal the google streaming app on his pc and he should be ok

Only the finals

The full 2018 season is available but you have to do a bit of digging. I use the desktop version, so unsure of how to search in the app.

Yes it has wifi in the sense that it connects to your local wifi network to stream but it has no ability to connect to the web without the aid of another device such as a phone or PC

the nvidia shield is (currently) regarded as the rolls royce for streaming, includes 4k support and hdr. can get one for about $200

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
