Brisbane want the points for their academy players but giving up pick 24 doesn't help the bid to get Neale over the line.  They may be looking to give up a player (pure guesswork on my part as Lions running out of usable picks).

Shame we couldn't get pick 13 from Sydney to package up a May deal and break the nexus with the Hogan deal.

For me, there are too many ifs and buts with Hogan. 

Probably Freo and other clubs have the same concerns.

Best that we plan a future without him, which means we need to compromise on the trade and accept less than what many feel we should get.

Freo must have convinced Brisbane that 5 + 24 doesn't get the Neale trade done, otherwise why trade it?  Now the next better offer would need to be 5 + 2019 1st with maybe something going back to Brisbane.  Brisbane's 2019 1st may then be in play for Hogan.  Who knows where Brisbane's and Freo's 2019 1sts will be placed - maybe Brisbane's later?

A little Birdy ( for the benefit of @sue et all ) deposited a rumour my way that the Neale deal could yet take all weekend to nut out. Wouldn't leave us a lot of time.

This I'm informed is purely as result of Freo living in some parallel dimension where things are not as everyone else assesses !!

Hopefully some sense enters this arena.

I'm not expecting any news for or from us about Jesse any time soon.

Will be very glad if this is wrong..or changed.

I think others have hit the nail on head. This is as much about Freos new hierarchy as it is real values.

Sounds good! That would make it  5 or 6 in 2018 plus Brisbane's 1st round 2019.  Brisbane will go up the ladder but can't see them making the eight so 2019 would be about pick 8-10.  I'd take that!

Agree to a degree. but I wouldn't over react to his injury. Yes, it may be debilitating but any player can get injured. just like Lever. Or any draft pick we use for the Hogan deal could also have a career ending injury at any moment.

It happens when a journalist is working on a super late story (still editing the story once the News has begun) or maybe writing multiple copy at the same time.

That's not correct. Channel 7 only reported that Freo had missed out on Jesse. I have no idea where that CH 7 got that story. No mention of failed medicals.

The Facebook page above reported on the CH 7 report an added in their own commentary about the failed medical without saying it was their own opinion leading people to falsely believe that CH 7 had also reported that. Those two "stories:" merged into a single narrative that spread without any corroboration.

My many years spent around negotiating tables with some of the toughest and best wheelers and dealers have taught me that there are some fundamental principles:

-Every one recognizes that there is always "ambit"" 

-That successful negotiation needs to take place leaving personal egos aside.

-That you need to place yourself in the shoes of the person on the other side of the table. You may not accept their claims or position,  but you need to understand and accept that a resolution requires accommodation on both sides.  

-That there is no deal or successful deal without compromise. 

-Unless the person on the other side is incompetent, you never get your best outcome, but you get an outcome that you can live with. 

-Both sides need to feel that they have had a win and that the outcome is acceptable to their constituents.

you sound like Josh Mahoney. I wasn't too pleased to hand over 2 draft picks for Lever when he was out of contract, signalled his intentions to leave and had an extensive injury history.
