Apologies my comments apply to Brendon Goddard who i detest.

Bg played a similar role to lewis / vince with a young team

In our case i think it time next year to move on from old slow but composed distributors to more dynamic players with potential

All good.  Thought you were being harsh on an 18 year old Cat B rookie by calling him a downhill skier!  I thought we only did that to our 18 year olds, not other teams!

Why not? He is a talented ball user, leader, a great size and provides us with some composure in a young defence. Former early draft pick that I think can flourish with a change of club.

Hopefully tongue in cheek

In both cheeks.

Wait, we took an 18-year old downhill skier as a Cat B rookie?

Talk about thinking outside the square!

Goodbye Lindsay Thomas. Your two most annoying acts were the goal against us a few months ago to pull the margin within a goal in the last quarter and the match winning spoil in Tassie in Rd 3 2016 that a small forward had no right to do. Amongst other things.

Surprised there weren’t that many retirement announcements today from players from clubs that are finished for the year.

Might want to get through Mad Monday first.

Tough game footy.

Michael Barlow delisted after game on saturday against the Cats, having 35 possessions.

Would we have any interest in Kieran Collins, the young backman delisted by Dogs today?  He is 20 and 194 cms.

That's funny, you have the same line used by the AFL a few hours ago. What a coincidence.

They're stealing my material.

You have no idea about how much power Gillon McLauchlan wields in the AFL. He can do anything including predict my pearls of wisdom ?

No. He’s too slow for AFL.

The general view is that there will be a deal done with Carlton but it’s unlikely that the Blues would give away their first pick.

Well if they don't give their first pick, what do they have to get a player who is contracted for 2 more years?

Also, he is obviously being offered plenty by Carlton, but other clubs would surely match that, why them?  He also wanted to return to Perth last year. I don't understand this.

You wouldn’t give pick #1 in the draft for Mitch McGovern but there is the matter of the priority pick that Carlton originally  didn’t really want because chasing priority picks is indicative of a lousy culture.

If the Blues are given a priority pick after the first 10 picks that should do it for them. Adelaide might have to package up that pick with something else to trade down to the early pick that would deliver them one of those SA young guns.

Who can guess why he would no longer go back to WA? All I know is once upon a time, a bloke called Mitch Clark who wanted to go home from Brisbane to Fremantle and somehow, he ended up at Melbourne.

Talk is that PP's will be after first round. That wouldn't do it for McGovern.

That’s “talk” and it’s possibly reasonable in Carlton’s situation (although even that flies in the face of the precedent the AFL twice set a few years ago in refusing to give PP’s to the MFC when it had a worse record than the Blues) but there’s the AFL’s canary in the mine which is the competition’s basket case - Gold Coast.

The AFL is desperate to save the Suns and the competition from the embarrassment of multiple 100 point floggings so it will try its hardest to help them. It wouldn’t surprise me therefore that they might decide to hand out PP’s this year after pick 10 or even earlier.

Would Carlton do Pick 1 for McGovern and Adelaide's Pick 7, or whatever it is?

Hugh Goddard delisted by Saints. I really thought this guy was going to be a very good player, but was cruelled by injuries.

Think he will be picked up by another club.

Stunned by that. He played a fantastic game a few weeks back for Sandringham.

I thought he was going to get a promotion to the Saints seniors, not the flick.

Could it be another case of proposed rookie listing?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
