Former firefighter Kane Cornes raised our kicking as an issue. Admittedly some of the examples he raised were for mine were about decision making. Ie Oliver, Jones, Brayshaw kicking long inside 50 straight to opponents.

Cornes also identified Jack Watts as our best kick of last 10 years. Don't think he has seen Fritsch play!

This AFL caper just seems too hard for this mob. Only comfortable with a JLT length season. Blow the opposition away with 3 goals in ten minutes then  cruise control for the remainder. Where are the leaders? Why I am I seeing carbon copies of our worst games last season reprised? This game was the replica of the GWS game last season. Will be interesting to see what round 23 turns up if we haven’t blown our season already. And if we get done in by Freo next week I will not be surprised.

Season on repeat mode.

Been saying it for years. The MFC does not work hard enough for long enough, never has. The whole club. Top to Bottom.

It’s why we have no home, it’s why we have to sell home games to the desert.

The whole club has to lift and stay there

It must start with the Footy Dept. and permiate back through the club. Week after week.

Why are these players lazy?

Is it because Goodwin is a mate and everybody loves him?

Jordan Lewis is a guy who was a champion mid at Hawthorn, but the pace of the game has gone past him now.

We are hiding him in the backline, and he does have his good games, but he is too slow and seems to give up goals every week due to errors and undisciplined play.

Id rather develop an Oscar Baker down there as we are desperate for some run off half back.

Amen.

They are developing Baker.  They are doing it the right way for a first year player.  They are developing him in the reserves until such time as he demands to be picked on a regular basis.  That's development.

For me, I'm preferring a bloke that's played 300+ games and 4 premierships, at this stage of our (the Club's) development.  Sure, he has lost a yard of pace, but I can tolerate that if he's adding value in other areas.  When that consistently drops off, then we reassess where our development is at, and either move Jordan on and replace him with someone that's got a similar resume (but 2-3 years younger), or if have developed further as a club, THEN we can look at adding the finishing touches to a Baker, et al.

Understand all that, but Jordan is looking more and more a liability every week.

There comes a time with every player , that the game goes past him no matter how many games he has played or premierships he has won.

Pity we don’t have Hunt available right now.

We could do some reshuffling and have Salem or stretch instead of Lewis or alternate Lewis and Vince.

Also if we can slot in Spargo and Fritsch then we can give Baker a run.

I am willing to give Jordan the benefit of the doubt for a few more weeks, but how many more goals through him each game can we leak?

Attitude is a huge part of it, just look at Richmond and how manic they are.

Im not going to name names but my daughter told me last week that she saw two high profile senior players buying smokes at 7/11.

How can you expect to achieve the ultimate if you are not fair dinkum?

does one of their names rhyme with messy bogan. cause that person is a wild one . in saying that Charlie curnow loves a puff

Jesse has been seen smoking before, Maxy either is/was a smoker. They've been two of our best all year, maybe they should all get on the cones as well.

I sense we are more strongly committed to the game effort, when we feel our backs are to the wall. (subconsciously)

When we start to feel more comfortable in our-selves and team, WE the Mfc (players and all,,, supporters as well) seem to lose some intensity and fire in the belly,,, and we feel the pressure when we're suddenly the hunted.

Then we as a club, switch like a light-switch,,, into Victim mode.  The atmosphere changes from being one of feisty-hunger, into an atmosphere of fear/anxiety and defensiveness.

This is a real phenomenon and apparently happens to boxers. They challenge for a belt and win. But then can't hold the belt. They get beaten. Again the challenger, they are dynamite and win the belt back. They just can't hold on to it for some reason.

We will drop out of the 8, then we'll throw the switch back to challenger mode. By then it may be too late.

Just the same as a player's season isn't rated on his past 3 weeks.

The simple story here is that Hogan has been shizen for the past 2 1/2 weeks (his last half last week was much better), but his season before that was very good.

He has time to regain that AA form that he had in the first half of the year, but equally, he has as many games to remain shizen.  It's up to him.

Happy to be paid lots.

Drop Brayshaw if it continues. Someone mentioned him as tradebait.

And Lewis. Please can we do something about Lewis.

Warn the entire team if their workrate and effort doesn't lift, EVERYONE IS ON THE TABLE

(Except Max, Mr Total Football, Oliver and maybe Viney and a couple of others).

Sorry for the hyperbole, I'm not feeling well.

You mean you would trade Demonland untouchable Jones?

So, his season has been "shithouse", because you are questioning if he has ever chased hard, laid a decent tackle, or if he works hard enough?

I'm all for everyone having their own opinion, but I think yours is pretty terrible in this instance.

he refuses to chase and do the non negotiables. every time he marks the ball he holds the play up and allows opposition defenders to get into the zone. he plays for free kicks and has a sook when things don't go his way. he struggles to take a contested mark and rarely leads inside the 50 however when he does it's always towards the pockets.

No because that would put me in one of ProDees containers and that is a fear I cannot come to grips with

Plus apparently it would literally make the place explode.

More hyperbole, sorry not sorry

Agree with everything said. One thing i wish would happen is that if we bomb it long, we have set-up in a way that if we do turn it over (say a defender marks the ball) they can't clear the ball to a lose player on his own. The amount of long bombs we kicked to then have them go uncontested one end to the other [censored] ed me off to no end. Stop that first easy kick (get it out of bounds or ball up, or get a turnover). Instead we bomb it long and then there are no melbourne players anywhere and only stkilda players (1st quarter i was literally shouting at the TV in front of my mates watching melbourne guys just stand in the middle of the ground while st kilda guys ran forward/to wings - when i think oliver kicked long to 3 lose st kilda guys by themselves yet they went end to end (with us having 3 more players than them in front of them when they kicked the first kick)).

I lost faith in our finals credentials when lever went down and every week has crushed me more and more to the point that i don't believe we will make finals - which is heartbreaking (only way we will is if other teams fall down around us, rather than us paving the way).

Vent over for now, but extremely frustrated like many.

Yeah, he's been that bad he's kicked 34 goals this season to be fourth for the Coleman Medal.

Does he need to have cracked the ton at this point of the season to get a pass mark from you?

just cause you kick a decent amount of goals doesn't mean you're played well. goody offloaded watts for being lazy , should do the same to Hogan

Hogan's work rate, generally, is terrific.  It's what allowed him earlier in the season to have such an impact all over the ground.  He's been quieter over the last month or so, but to suggest his work rate is poor and his season has been 'shithouse' is plain wrong.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
