Daisy Pearce on the ABC's call of the Lions V Dogs last a few weeks back after Hipwood missed a fairly elementy set shot:

"Do you think a haircut would help?"

lol Gold - telling it like it is!

Since the acceleration of equality campaigns in recient years, I have noticed far more women presenters in football.  Daisy is one of the few that give the impression of really belonging.

I get the impression that many of the female presenters are there just on a semi token basis.  They are i) female, ii) good at delivering semi scripted/formulaic vanilla match summaries/introductions and iii) many are very easy on the eye.  But not many talk with alot of confidence or authority on pure footy matters.

In general, I'm in favor of greater female representation in footy comentary, I just wish more were like Daisy.

Who?

i call bull dust on this. Kellie Underwood is terrific, an excellent caller and good football brain who was pathetically hounded from Chanel 10 when she first started because people didn't like her voice. Angel Pipos is likewise a good footy brain who knows what she is talking about. Love hearing Emma Quale talk about footy and Caroline Wilson is a gun.

Who else is there (sadly a very short list)?

Agreed. Daisy is a sweet Bogan

She is articulate, intelligent and insightful. Have a look back at her first address at a MFC awards night about two years ago. Her speech was far better than anyone else, including, Paul Roos, Peter Jackson, Glen Bartlett and Nathan Jones. She is a gem and we are lucky to have her in Melbourne colours.

I'm mainly think of the ones on the Fox Footy channel.  They come across as very vanilla presenters rather than having any real interest in the game.

Caroline Wilson may have had a fairly good understanding on footy, but she wasted it by narrowing the focus of her reporting on the dirt, rumour politics and innuendo.  Couldn’t stand her style of reporting.

Fair enough. I don't watch Fox, but the few times i have i've seen few vanilla male presenters too.

The males on Fox Footy are as just as bad or worse. That includes former players.

I’m liking what Nick Riewoldt brings, though. Couldn’t stand him when he was playing.

She does a great interview but I hope she wants to move into the commentary box. She would be best served providing special comments than calling the game; she knows more about footy than those that retired 20 years ago...

That shouldn’t surprise anyone though - she is still playing footy and gets much of the same guidance that the other side of the club gets.

Yes, with a voice like a chainsaw!!

I thought he never set foot outside Burwood. A bit tough to do special comments if that is the case.

bt demon said that she was articulate, intelligent and insightful. I agree, much more than any other female caller.

Compared to the other female (and most male) callers and commentators, her voice is more pleasant (less grating and nasally), she is definitely more knowledgeable and able to make concise, authoritative and relevant comments on the game, not on the peripheral issues that seem to be attractive to most of the boys (BT, Bruce etc).

Best since Dipper I reckon?!

Can't work out is serious, cynical, satirical or sardonic.

Daisy provides some insightful commentary from the boundary. Very few others, including Dipper, ever have. That may not be Dipper's fault. He may have done the job he was asked to do. if you need evidence as to how producers impact on the way presenters do their job, contrast Brian Taylor's serious Friday night calling with Bruce with his former role as caller and jokester on a Saturday night with Luke Darcy. Two completely different versions of BT.

Was trying to talk my (French) partner in moving to Melbourne for the birth of our daughter (who is due during the finals, can't friggin believe it, F(*@%&(^&($%@&^($^%&$^#(%K) so that Daisy could be the midwife, knowing my luck she will be born when we are in the grand final and I will miss it, am deeply scared of this. The alternate is to have a early c section (neither option appear to be gaining much traction with her).

She's not a natural when speaking to a script, but is clever, insightful (as many have said) and loves the Dees. She's a ripper.

Tayla Harris is one. They get her doing promos from the boundary and it's not great.

Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read.
