Changes Vs Essendon

Garlett has to be dropped to find some form. Most of his goals this year have been gimmes and his defensive pressure work is at an all time low.

Spargo is renowned for his pressure and tackling and he’s got on end of some goals in the VFL. If he can bring half of what Jack higgjns did for Richmond last night it’ll be a worthy inclusion.

Inject some new blood Goodwin and send Jeffy a required message. Leave him in and what message does he receive?

Don't agree about Garlett at all. You try playing his role when the ball keeps being bombed long with no-one to burst or bust packs. Add that presence and Garlett becomes a wiz. How dare you question his 'work'.

You’re making excuses for him. His EFFORTS have been bordering on pathetic. He’s protecting himself from contests that might actually give the team better scoring opportunity.

Are you his brother?

btw, I said â€˜defensive pressure work’.

I guess you see what you want to see. I see him being there, waiting, Tunbridge, Vagg like...

I can only interpret effort one way.

I don’t doubt his skill when the ball is in his  hands. It’s when it’s in the oppositions hands that he’s fallen off the planet with trying to win it back.

Out: Stretch, ANB, Harmes, Kent (injured)

In: Tom McDonald, Hannan, Fritsch, Lewis

speed, skills and experience in.

C'MON WHERE'S THE LOVE FOR PEDO?

Very hard to see Tom Mac playing - if his recent interview is anything to go by, he's only due to start full football work this week.

And people here were bitching about players who were "rushed back" last year as one of the causes of all our woes.

I had him in mate and pulled him out at the last minute. Don’t think we can play Weid, Hogan, Pedo and TMac in the same side? I was all for pedo to come in for Richmond but to Sams credit and my surprise I think he did ok, especially relief rucking which surprised me

Nobody wants T Mac rushed back,  Bing.

He said last week he should be ready for the Essendon game.  If hes not cherry ripe then he shouldn't play.

T.Mac down back trust me it's gonna work.

Billy stays as he needs to recapture the pace of AFL footy again

Please tell me your not on the match committee. At least you have love for Pedo.

So maybe play Hogan in the Richo/Lynch role on the wing and have Tom CHB, Weid CHF and Pedo FF?

FB ....... Oscar ......

CHB ...... Tom......

C Hogan, .......,.......

CHF ...... Weideman ......

FF ...... Pedersen.......

Speed speed speed!  Eitihad is the bummers favourite ground and they play it well!  If we are to play finals this is a must win.

Agree. Speed. Speed. That’s why hunt and Stretch stay in just

Out. Vince Kent (inj) Anb

in. Spargo (debut) Fritsch Pedersen

Stretch isn't quick I don't know why people say is, he is about as useful as JKH.

Is Spargo quick I though Old dee said he wasn't. Baker is quick but his form hasn't been great. Hannan is the same.

We have never been a quick side and we still beat them at Etihad last year. Leg speed is overrated ball use speed is the key.

Agree, he was pathetic yesterday, his effort almost non existent. The few possessions he got he turned over while in fear of being tackled. It was so obvious to see.

Aside from the Lions game he has been poor so far this season and unfortunately he is not Robinson Crusoe.

He was good against North as well. We talk about lack of leg speed and we want to drop Garlett doesn't make sense to me when so many others should be dropped before him.

I would seriously consider Spargo over Vince. Just read Big Footy and read that someone who watched a lot of Spargo thought he was a top 5 pick as a 16 year old until injuries hit. His form at VFL level has been good but not great like Pedersen. Hopefully Goodwin considers it because we can't afford to play both Lewis and Vince in the same side for much longer.

I would definitely drop Harmes for my man T.Mac.

I would seriously consider Spargo over Vince.

That will likely happen I reckon.. Vince to be rested.

Spargo in to provide a sparko.

B: LEVER, O.MCDONALD, JETTA

HB: HIBBERD, T.MCDONALD, HUNT

C : PETRACCA, OLIVER, SALEM

HF: FRITSCH, HOGAN, MELKSHAM

F: GARLETT, WEIDEMAN, PEDERSEN

FOLL: GAWN, TYSON, JONES

IC: BRAYSHAW, J.WAGNER, LEWIS, SPARGO

EMERG: VINCE, NEAL-BULLEN, HARMES, HANNAN

I changed my side again. I promise it's the last time maybe.

Why do people have Lewis in the team, he broke his hand around 11 days ago, surely he wont be ready.

I didn't see the match so can't make an informed comment on who 'deserves' to be dropped.

But, our win-loss record since 2016 now stands at;

16-10 with Pedo in the team

8-15 without him.

I'm not stupid, and recognise Pedo's limitations, but we structure up better with him out there - and however outlandish, he does have the (proven) capacity to help turn a close match.

I'm perplexed by his continued sidelining by our past two coaches at the first opportunity. Whatever his deficiencies, deal with it - the same way half the 'developing' team are given a pass for theirs.

i HATE esseondon, but they are gonna cut us up. maybe worth chucking in young oskar baker? i'd rather stick with garlett. he might come out and win the game. spargo isn't quite there yet.. drop ANB. get pedo in (we need someone that marks it). maybe drop weids/harmes.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
