List of shockers in past two seasons.

Did a list of what I consider our worst shockers over the past two season. These were losses where we were expected to do well, were total capitulations or both.  Most are quite evenly spread throughout the season with a couple of exceptions late in the season. There is a pattern there. So we are due for a win or an honourable loss in round 5 by these figures.

2016                                2017                                   2018

Round 2-Essendon         Round 4- Freo                  Round 4- Hawthorn

Round 6- Saints               Round 9- North

Round  10- Port                 Round 15- Syd

Round 13- Syd                  Round 19- North

Round 17-Saints              Round 20- GWS

Round 22- Carlton            Round 23- Collingwood

Round  23-Geelong

Round 23 2017.    v Pies ;)

There is no such thing A loss is a loss there is nothing honourable about it. I bet there is not one Hawthorn supporter on the Earth that has every used those two words.

They are used by perennial losers get them out of your mind.

My point adc is "honourable Losses" dont exist, e sponge them from your mind.

The number of time you lose does not make a close finish honourable it just means you were not good enough to win, a one point loss is the same as a 10 goal loss you just did not win in both cases.

Now repeat after me we either win lose or draw nothing else exists.

I gave it the respect it deserved.  This has been regurgitated all week.  Why you feel so important to create a thread about it, rather than sticking it in other ones, is beyond me.

I was thinking along those lines at early last weekend.

Sorry for being a pain adc but it is one of my bug bares, for the best part of 50 years I have seen this constantly at the MFC. It annoys me more than any other single thing Dees supporters do/ say.

I see  your point but we are playing the reigning premiers. We have to show something. We might lose to a another fluffed kick by Gawn on the death but am fearful we might roll over again. Still I think we can completely reverse last weeks debacle and win but I don’t hold high hopes for the next round if we have a stunning win.

Was that Essendon game when half their team was suspended and they had all the VFL fill ins?

Only Melbourne could have lost that.   And that was under Roos.

Sorry it just bugs me as you have no doubt worked out.

That was such an unbelievable game. Defied logic.

Sure was.  I remember it well, it was such a Melbourne game to lose that I put money on Essendon plus Gold Coasst to beat Freo in Freo (that was when Freo lost the opening ten rounds or something like that).  $32 to 1. Find it is the best was to guard against the gutted feeling of losing those ones we should most definitely win $$$$$

I'd almost put the Hawks game last year in there too.  Should have won that one.

So we could still have another 4 bad games and still be improving year on year!

Honourable Loss = a little bit dead

It's delusional

I haven't read one of the posts.

I'm sure many of these games you speak of have given me nightmares.

I choose not to relive them, why would anyone? Once was enough.

There really are a lot of sad cases around here '@Axis of Bob '

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
