Preseason Training - Week commencing 6/11/17

Terrific leadership shown by Viney to be there with the younger lads and an overall very good strategy by the FD if it was in anyway instigated by them.

Happy to know that Pedobear is there and  looking sharp. Thinking this might add another layer of urgency on Weideman to put in a good pre season and hit 2018 flying.

Re Salem, I desperately want him to become the player we all want him to be but I’ve never had the confidence to think he can be it. Good to read he’s been doing the extras.

Thanks to ALL the posters contributing and getting to some sessions.

Salem is the fittest I have ever seen him

Viney was only there for a quick walking lap for about 10 minutes

No sign of Pedersen today

There are going to be 3 sessions a week if you get the chance Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the moment

@Drunkn167 mate how is Dec feeling about his second go around?

Hows his expectations of his year ahead?

His expectations on himself are pretty high, wants to be playing regular senior football by the end of the season as he knows his job is on the line.

He's done plenty of work in the off season, regularly training both by himself and with one of the main gym instructors at his home based gym.

He is at the same muscle mass as half way through the season currently, where 95% of other players drop a little bit of muscle.

Hes made sure not to overdo it and been in regular contact with trainers/physios etc.

He's lifting heavier weights and basically doing all the prep he can to give himself the best chance.

We'll see what happens.

Just FYI Dec was wearing that jumper because he played for the Moe Lions FC

After a great start his season went off the rails when they kept trying to develop his inside game instead of getting the ball to him in space. If allowed to run hard on the wings and spread from stoppages he'll play with confidence and contribute. If the focus is on overusing the ball in tight again he might lose his confidence and start making errors that he didn't make in the first 2 years of his career.

Billy didn't use the ball aggressively enough IMO in his link up role on the wing.  When he had possession he held up play too much, he needs to play on more fearlessly.  Coaching staff will respect that if he does and we'll have to accept some turnover errors as a result.

Agreed, maybe a lack of confidence this year influenced by the fact that not much confidence was shown in him by the coaching staff/Goodwin giving him regular games. We saw the difference in ANB as his confidence grew from being given game time.

Hope the coaching staff invest in Billy.

Dec struggled a lot today, he's carrying a pretty decent head cold at the moment

He collapsed in the last running of the day but still copped flak from the coaches, they sure are asking a lot of the players this preseason already

Saty am  very interested to hear if you think Truck has post weight and how much and if there are any standouts from the off season like Clarry’s change of body shape this time last year.

Obviously I wish all the players but I must admit I am barracking a bit harder for Dec because of your input on here Drunkn. Your call of "He knows his job is on the line" hits home as to the precarious nature of an AFL players career if you aren’t one of the elite.

I very much hope Dec will be playing in the 22. Perhaps a Queens Birthday debut!

Without sounding like a creepy old man, that some make me out to be, the message has sunk in, Trac and Harmes went on holiday together but obviously did a heap of work, they are both in magnificent shape and were wandering around at the end of the session shirtless showing off the rigs

There is nobody at the moment who looks to have slacked, King is one who looks to have not stopped training since the end of the season

As mentioned before Gus looks really fit, is wearing his lucky jocks and carrying a rabbits foot in his sock and avoiding ladders

The one who really pisses me off is Crossy, the other coaches are beginning to show they are retired, Crossy put the rehabbers through a solid 1 and 1/2 hours, doing all the running and drills, hardly broke a sweat    quote (not me) "he is a machine"

N Jones: “Now they've come back and hopefully that continues with the older group as they filter back in and we can put together a really strong pre-season and that drives us for season 2018."

How about coming back in with shock and awe like superheroes and smashing the preseason after wimping out like dogs in the last game of 2017???

Filter my cigarette...

N Jones seems to be getting a few headlines recently.

Hope he " headlines " on field in 2018 !

Fanks, as always thanks for the feedback and fingers crossed the hard work pays off and he is a star for the club.

PS I’m sure you’ve been pushing him hard in the gym?

More like the opposite haha he's dragged me along to AAMI park a few times. The facilities there are amazing

But yeah I've made sure he keeps to his schedule when it was getting tough

You've mentioned Dec has had a head-cold quite a number of times over this past year Drunkn. Maybe you could get him some echinacea pills for Xmas? Frequent whisky works a treat for me but probably isn't an option for the bro.

It is serious time Harmes, Weed, Clarry and Billy S, along with Mitch White doing a solid session this morning at a gym run by one of the Club's fitness staff

FWIW I saw Max Gawn and someone else (not sure who) doing some laps around an oval in Glen Iris as I rode along the Gardiner's Creek trail the other day, clearly doing some pre-official training.

As always thanks for the training insights. Especially for us interstaters.

No they had a wear your Junior Jumper session

A shame Max isn't back yet. A certainty to rock up in his Under-15's junior jumper just for the yuks.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
