2017 Player Reviews: # 16 Dean Kent

I actually have confidence that Kent will be e revelation this season.

Just as a matter of interest , when is the coaching staff seen as responsible for not getting the right output from a player who obviously has ability? Is it ALWAYS the player's fault alone for not living up to supporters' expectations?

BTW, that was a rhetorical question.. I know the answer

How is it hard to comprehend?

Watts' contract is/was far more than Kent's, so moving on Watts was a logical choice there, especially with brining in Lever, as well as the current contract negotiations with Gawn and Petracca, as well as the upcoming TMc extension.  We have more cap space to work with now.

Further to that, we got pick 31 for Watts.  Would've been lucky to get 88 for Kent, which would've been a totally useless deal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for 2018 Kent to play a similar role to that of 2017 Ben Ken, but to say getting rid of him before Watts was hard to comprehend, is in fact hard to comprehend itself.

Does that include the money we are paying Port Adelaide for taking Watts off our hands?

He has the attributes of Hassa Mann, and he quite visibly was emotional just when he was finding form and did his shoulder again, I think we give him another run at it - if he has a massive pre-season, he'll be his only limit!

I bet you are also basing this off a 5 sec clip when the camera showeed him sitting in the freezer tent.

Seriously WTF has this got to do with anything?

1. What would you base that on?

2. It is always the players fault for not beng the best possible player he can be

I think he can be a very capable player, but what position? A high HF with not much desire to pressure? A mid who doesn't get much footy? He has a got a decent left foot but needs to own a role.

Nowhere right now.

Would love to see him in our best team - has pace and a great long kick, and we know that, at times, he can apply the requisite defensive pressure

He and vandenBerg could be the comeback stories of 2018

Yes very much looking forward to a AVB this year!

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
