Apart from his lack of awareness and poor disposal he definitely doesnt have a tank.He lacks speed and Vo2 max isnt up to a onballer.Furthermore lm not impressed with the  conditioning department and think there needs to be definite reassessment as well.

FIRST OF ALL I WOULD KEEP DOM TYSON.

I am criticle of our game plan and structures after the Sydney game.

Not having a forward line or lead up players makes it difficult for our midfield and running backs to move the ball forward quickly ti advantage. We are always hand balling backwards or kicking it forward into no mans land where the opposition clean up and come back the other with ease. No wonder we have very little efficiency inside forward 50.

Travis Johnstone was a gun midfielder but got caught or turned the ball over alot playing to a similiar game plan. Dom Tyson in the same boat!

I dont think our game plan and structures is upto scratch. We are a high turn over team and we dont even play on the edge/risk through the middle of the ground. 

I think it would be frustrating as a player atm.

GAME PLAN AND STRUCTURES NEEDS BE LOOKED AT... THATS ON THE COACHES! OPPOSITION HAVE WORKED US OUT. WE NEED TO BE MORE DIVERSE.

COACHING HAS BEEN POOR FROM SYDNEY GAME ONWARDS.

Gee comparing TJ to Dom is harsh on TJ - TJ was an elite ball user EXCEPT he would occasionally try for an overly ambitious kick that wasn't on and therefore turn it over. 

Dom just has trouble on occasions hitting up very simple targets or blazes away to the opposition.

 

l agree nutbean.Two [censored] years and still reproducing the same mistakes.My main gripe is with the coaching staff and not addressing these obvious skill errors.

Already said earlier but why anyone would want to trade a player who is 24 and solidly in out best 22 is beyond me, not every player can be a star some are just a work horse.

What do people think our midfield looks like once Jones, Vince and Lewis retire in the next year or two. Do you really want to add Tyson to that list. Imagine having to play JKH, Maynard, Stretch and Bugg in the team every week. We would be begging to have Tyson at that point.

I agree Garbo it beggars belief.

However Demonland is in a revenge mood about every player who played badly last Saturday. It will probably take a month before sanity returns.

There will be changes to list but I seriously doubt there will be changes to any who played last weekend.

The worst type of player in today's footy, is the player who gives it to the other side. On saturday for example, the Pies kicked all of their 6 first quarter goals from turnovers. Digest that for a second. If we don't turnover the ball as much in that first quarter, we are in the finals.

Most of Tyson's early possessions were turnovers and they KILLED us.

Before some of you rush in and say " but at least he gets it", that is not the answer, as often he is given it by other players and then gives it away.

Ask your self what would you rather have, a player who gets 15 contested possessions and never turns it over, or a bloke who gets a mix of 25 contested and uncontested possessions and turns over 15 of them.

Add to that a player who can't be relied on to kick simple goals when other players pass the ball to him, who has no pace to apply pressure and who doesn't usually run the game out.

Lewis and VInce are just about cooked, we need Tyson unless we can get back another solid experienced mid in a trade.

No tank, can't hit targets. You think he's a work horse? Not fit for purpose.

A tank generally comes with age (no surprise Lewis, Jones and Vince are are the top 3 mids for TOG), for his age he is no worse than other mids. His ability to hit targets by foot is a concern but this was also the case with Jones back in the day (and still is to an extent) but it hasn't stopped him been one of our best players of resent years. At the end of the day he has minimal trade value (mid 2nd round pick) and what do you get in return an 18yo who will take time and in the mean while a lesser player needs to fill in for him. Are we starting the rebuild again?

I wasnt comparing players. I was just saying they both got caught holding the ball or turned it over because of poor structure and game plan.

Dom is not alone blazing away to the opposition. A leading or existent forward line would help.

Agree. Astute oppositions worked out the strengths & weaknesses of our game plan long ago. They worked out how we move the ball and how to draw turnovers from us.

There is a lot of good about our game plan, but it needs some intelligent tweaking & flexibility and less predictability - "more diverse", as you say.

At the opening bounce we have no one within 40 metres of the goal, if we win the centre clearance I don't know who our coaches expect the midfielders to kick it to.

You said Tyson was a work horse right? Then say he can't be expected to have a tank?

We got Hibberd for pick 29. Mid second round. Second rounders can be worth a lot if used well

Easy. They're supposed to bomb it to within 20m of goal, and Hogan & Watts have to get to the fall of the ball and make a contest, together with their own direct opponents and the two unmarked HBFs whose Dee opponents have just run off the back of the centre square. Hogan & Watts must contest the mark, on no account are they allowed to lead into space, even if the defenders are fully prepared for this and know they only have to guard the space 20-30m out from goal and can safely leave every other part of their d50 unguarded.

The perfect player doesn't exist. Yes, Tyson turns it over, but no more than many inside players where disposals are nearly always under pressure. Hopefully it's something that'll improve as he matures, as it has with other players, though it's interesting that his DE has fallen this year from a more than respectable 70+%. Game plan? Other players not working as hard? Dom himself not working as hard?

FWIW, Viney also has mediocre disposal. And has been pointed out, the player who leads the AFL stats for most turnovers is ... Dustin Martin.

There are only 3 players in the league who've averaged over 15 CP per game: Dangerfield, Kennedy and Clayton Oliver. All have disposal efficiency around that of Tyson, +/- 66%, and apart from Oliver, all rank high for turnovers.

What midfielder do you think we could get for a mid 2nd round pick who has at least 4-5 year left and who would exceed Tyson.

I would argue that if you could get such a midfielder then we're better of using our own 2nd round pick and getting them and keeping Tyson, bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

TJs disposal was overrated.
Drank his own bathwater, went too often for the ambitious kick and turned it over plenty..

Yep trade for me, I think he has some currency and his skills/decision making look like preventing him becoming the player he might be otherwise
